Still waiting on US Bank to give me my $400 bonus for the prior promo that required two deposits totaling more than $5000.
I manager a deposit at a big bank and we have offers like this all the time but to answer your question, we do NOT accept transfers (brokerage, wireless, or any other). a direct deposit has a certain transaction code and that's how we track it. can't speak for us bank but they likely do the same.
This is the only bank where I did not received account opening bonus out of ~20.

Note that if you keep $100k there and get the Smartly credit card it gets 4% back on everything which is basically unicorn status.
Did this. Got 15k limit. Wtf, appealed got up to 25. Went to local branch rep got on phone with back end and got it to 50. Was hoping for 100 at minimum. Trying to wean off Amex gold with devaluation into Schwab.
If I had $100k sitting idle I'd rather just plop it in a CD and get 4.5% guaranteed on the entire 100k than keep it in a 0% interest account and do the monthly payoff dance to get 4% on just my purchases. But if you live in a world where you are able to make $10k/mo in CC purchases and need the 100k liquid (like imminently purchasing a house) maybe it makes sense?
The savings pays 3.5. I got 50k limit which I hit already (business use). Lose 1% on cd but gain min of 2% vs good cash back card. I'm coming out ahead about $980 a month vs double cash and 4.5% cd with 100,000

You can put it in a CD from Capital One and that will count and get you the 4% back on the Smartly Visa.
Open another type of account first - such as saving or credit card which is available nationwide. Then as an existing customer, you can open a checking.
