Tempting. I've been using this since 2014 and it's still going strong…

I have used it with a chimney (instead of paper). I usually just pour the coals into my grill in a big pile and shove the lighter in the top middle of it. It's started after 7-8 mins. After that, use a leaf blower on it to get it roaring in 2 more mins.

I got mine on clearance at Walmart for $4 maybe 5 years ago and it's still going strong. You want to use a little common sense when using it, and barring a dud, pinched wire or bad luck there really isn't much to them to go wrong.

I angle it into my Weger kettle grill on top of a brick and put a pile of coals around the heating element **in front** of the heat shield. When lit unplug, use the heating element to spread the coals, replace the grate and you're ready to start with your routine. FYI - I divide my grill's coal chamber with bricks to help with indirect/direct grilling.

I loved the chimney but hated the burning paper scattering everywhere. The starter fluid leaves a nasty taste in the food. The downside to this is you need to be by an outlet and use an extension cord. Also takes longer than a chimney to cool down.

Don't angle it anywhere near vertical. The handle is plastic and will melt. My guess is that's why your average Amazon reviewer got only 3 uses out of it. 😄
