I was thrilled to get the first generation of this lens on sale for $525 back when it was $650 since you basically needed to get a 2.8 aperture to shoot decent astro way back then. I still own it and refuse to sell it 10 years after upgrading to FF. It's great for astro and landscape, but it is also excels at interior and exterior architecture due to the minimal rectilinear distortion.
As a gift to friends, whenever I go to weddings, I slap on a laser AF flash with a knock off Gary Fong diffuser, stop it down to F7.1 and get incredible results from the dance floor without even needing to look down the viewfinder or at the LCD. With an old spare 70d, I also pass it around to people on the dance floor to let them use it and everything comes out in focus and tack sharp. I did the same at my own wedding and my friends who had been drinking for 8 hours straight and never used a DSLR were getting great shots.

I love this lens (the older version). Having said that, the focal range is limited enough that it almost seems like a prime. I bought the FF version of this lens (16-28mm) and I much prefer the crop version due to the weight. They are both built like tanks.
This version improved on almost every aspect of version 1.

As far as using this with an EF-M body, I also did that, but it wasn't my favorite due to the major weight imbalance. This was somewhat fixed by using a L-bracket grip, or with a body like an M50 with even a small grip. I used it on my original EOS M, but it just wasn't good ergonomics.

For anyone interested in astrophotography or anything else I mentioned, this lens is amazing and this is a great price.

EF-Mount Lens/APS-C Format

Features
An update to a prized zoom, the Canon EF-mount atx-i 11-16mm f/2.8 CF from Tokina is a versatile ultra-wide zoom well-suited for landscape, architecture, and interior shooting. Characterized by its bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture, consistent brightness is afforded throughout the zoom range and benefits working in available lighting conditions. The optical design incorporates a series of aspherical and low dispersion elements, which suppress a variety of aberrations for improved sharpness and clarity. Individual elements are also multi-coated to resist flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy when working in bright or backlit conditions. Complementing the optics, this lens features a One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism for fast changing between AF and MF settings, and an internal focusing design is used for responsive focusing performance.

This is probably the best value for APS-C (crop sensor) DSLRs for a wide angle lens. One of the previous iterations was my go to wide boi when I was shooting Nikon crop cameras.

For anything which requires a wide view, especially when you are also dealing with low light conditions (given this lens' constant wide aperture). In addition to the already mentioned landscape and astrophotography, it can be used for group portraits and/or to show a wider context.

Here are some uses/ideas:

How good is the AF when used with a efm adapter? Tempting to use it with my m200

A lens this wide generally doesn't need to be particularly zippy or accurate, the depth of field even wide open is substantial.

Why would one buy this over the Canon 10-18?

I have an older version of this lens (Nikon mount), it's pretty nice. It even works on full frame past 13mm or so.
