I purchased 2 when they were $99, and although locked for 1 year they've been working flawlessly for several months now on Tello using MKSD Ultra V5.6

For those having trouble porting in from TracFone, Straight Talk, or Total Wireless, here are the steps you need to take at the porting part. This is based on my experience. I have successfully completed port-ins from these sites after working out this guide. The guide below is taken from Total Wireless port into Metro. It should be the same for Straight Talk and other TracFone subsidiaries including TracFone.

Port Info Needed:
Most can be found here
https://www.totalwireless.com .. my-account.. manage-lines
Line: Phone number
Account: Phone IMEI (Text Four to 611611 to confirm)
Zip code: Your zip code
PIN: Text NTP to 611611 to generate your PIN.

----------------------
At the Porting part.
1. Enter the port info.
2. Metro contacts Total Wireless. (See picture 1)
3. Metro throws an error even if you entered everything correctly. (See picture 2)
4. The error is because Total Wireless is contacting the line owner to warn them about the port. (See picture 3)
5. Click on Correct errors.
6. Re-enter everything again and make sure everything is correct.
7. Metro throws another error. The same one as seen in Picture 2.
8. This is a bug on Metro site.
9. Click on the X at the top right to close that error message.
10. Metro proceeds to completing the order.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you clicked on submitting the order to Metro, your Total/ST/Tracfone line is immediately inactivated on their respective site, not allowing you to port that line any further even if Metro denied your order asking you to contact them or go to their store for completing the order. In order words, you cannot reverse the porting at Total/ST/Tracfone. I spent 2 hours with Total and it was going nowhere.

My Moto phone from Metro bought more than a year ago. Still not able to unlock. "Device must be used on this phone number for 180 days" message when try to unlock
All my phones from Metro was unlocked last week after 6 months. I thought I have to wait 1 year but I'm glad they were unlocked early. Some of those phones had the service for the initial month.

So you have to pay for the metro plan for 6 months? That REALLY kills this deal

For $125 and unlocks in 6 months, that's not bad. A lot of morons paid $285 for the same phone which is 2.3x more in price.

If you're using Tmobile postpaid, you can use the MKSD Ultra and stick it with your Tmobile sim. I've been doing that for a few months now and it works flawlessly. Don't know about other carriers though. Gonna purchase one and trade in at the apple store.

Has anyone successfully used visible port with _this_ promo? I know it has worked in the past but this promo's terms seem to suggest it's no longer accepted.

New unlocking policy is 12 months, not 6 months anymore.

Did you already have the Tello SIMs or is that something you did after you purchased the phones?
I have an XR currently on Tello that I would love to replace with a 13. Would the process for me be (1) acquire a burner phone number to port in (2) pay for one month on Metro (3) swap in the Tello SIM with MKSD? I wouldn't port in my number with Tello, right?

I got 3 moto phones from Metro last year and all 3 of them got unlocked after 6 months without any issue. I didnt pay anything after first month service. They are all working fine now on other networks, infact 2 of them are working using overseas sim cards without issue. To get good battery life, I had removed all possible bloatware metro apps. Even though I am tempted by iPhone for $125, 1 year kills the deal for me. Looks like metro is trying to tighten the loose ends

I'd need a spare phone to add and activate the new visible # to, wouldnt I, unlike using a google voice #? Sorry, I'm a noob.
no, you'd just pit the visible sim in your phone for activation and porting out, then go back to your old sim

Will MKSD void the unlock process? By using MKSD and another SIM - wil the phone STILL unlock after 12 months?
no reason to believe it won't. MKSD just fools the hardware to bypass the carrier lock.
