can you use this to scrub off gunk on metal faucet knobs?

just bought a house and moved in a week ago under the impression that they had this place professionally cleaned (BS), and there's disgusting residue on all the faucets. trying to figure out how to get it off

I'd recommend some sort of solvent and a nylon brush.
