awful. I've had moen, delta, and even price pfister send out complete sets if a part wasn't available. with HG - you have to have registered the device during the 30day window. I have a shower system that has failed, the hand held unit is cracked and leaking water. HG couldn't be bothered. Their reply was that the warranty card needs to be filled out within 30 days of installation to activate the warranty. I do remember filling it out and mailing it in - I'm pretty good about that stuff. They didn't have it, I have no proof.

My shower space is purpose built around that particular shower system - but I've seen things that are similar, might be compatible - very very soon, I will replace this with any other brand. Kohler, Moen, Delta, or even pFister - all have excellent warranty - basically send a picture of your faucet or they'll help you find the model.

The cartridges alone cost more than this. Might be prudent to buy two, just to have the spare cartridges handy!

When our hansgrohe faucets started dripping, we wound up replacing the whole thing with a Delta faucet just to keep the cost down.

Our shower mixing valve alone was going to be nearly $200.

Hansgrohe is top tier, but unfortunately not common enough to have cheap parts.

What exactly is the cartridge for? Is this something that is replacing the spout filter when there's too much calcium built up?

The cartridge is the valve that controls water flow. Each handle has one inside. Generally, the cartridge wears faster and is fouled by hard water faster than the exterior of the faucet, so you replace the cartridge, not the entire faucet.

cant speak on warranty but to my understanding Hansgrohe is owned by Masco, which manufactures Delta as well
