Decent price for what it does, the Scout Pro 3 measures cabling distance which is the huge difference over the Scout Pro 2. Other than that they just about have the same feature set. I picked up a couple Scout 2's for 30 bucks or so about 5 years ago when they were replaced with this Scout 3 model, but it was around 100 bucks I believe. This would be a good deal for someone in the market for a fancy but not so expensive quick and dirty cable tester.

You can check the length of each pair (testing data). Not just the whole cable. Simply by checking each pair you can find the distance to fault (usually).

Decent price for what it does, the Scout Pro 3 measures cabling distance which is the huge difference over the Scout Pro 2. Other than that they just about have the same feature set. I picked up a couple Scout 2's for 30 bucks or so about 5 years ago when they were replaced with this Scout 3 model, but it was around 100 bucks I believe. This would be a good deal for someone in the market for a fancy but not so expensive quick and dirty cable tester.

Having a tester that can tell you length to a short is huge. Then when you have a bad end you can just replace the end that you know is bad instead of guessing.

It's not as good as a Fluke tester in measuring length, but at this price it's more than good enough.

That's what I want. I have a pair somewhere that's broken. It's hard to shake a new one. Not sure if it's worth rerunning the entire line or if it's close enough to cut it out

50 years? Scout 2 was not available back in 1975.

Safe to assume any tone detector will pick up the tone generated by this?

I don't need this since I've got a cheapo fox/hound with simple pair testing, but having extra features can come in handy.

You're telling me you don't run fiber to your apple tv and use a media converter to hook it up? EEK!

Fiber has its place, but its not for everywhere.

Also check your local home depot, I got one of these for ~$25 on clearance about a month ago. The local home depots seem to clearancing klein stuff at random times.
