Great water bottle at a good price if your kid is okay with the bugs graphic. Other graphics are $18-25.

The spout is a soft silicone where pressure from a child's teeth opens the middle of the spout for a better drink. If the spout is upright and tipped over, it will not leak (drop or two maybe at the most). If the spout is upright and pressure is applied to it somehow, it may leak but probably only the amount that is in the straw. These are the best bottles imo and I used them for my two kids and my youngest still uses it for school

We have a few of these in both steel and plastic. The tops are the same on all of them and the spout eventually splits down the middle on the seam. Seems like an obvious design flaw. They are my kids fav bottles though so there is something to be said for that but drinking out of them gets awkward when the whole spout is split down the middle.

I would recommend something else. this takes a little more effort than just sucking out of a straw. You have to bite the silicone top and then suck. There are a lot of other cups that work. Look at silipint silicone cups and straws. That's what we used and it was great. We also had Pura Stainless insulated baby bottles that can convert to straw cup, and then to a basic water bottle or even sport top bottle.

I'm not saying these are terrible as we also had one for our toddlers as they could carry more than just 8oz plus stay cold all day with ice. This would be good for trips to amusement parks, hiking, or road trips. Each works well for their purpose. Silipint cups and straws work great at home, Pura Stainless are good for travels, and these are good for when they are a little older or want a second cup. One for juice one for milk.
Just options. This way, you have some options. Hope this helps.

Are these bottles dishwasher safe? I know it says so on them but I've read insulation gets damaged over time due to high temps in the dishwasher

I periodically put them in the dishwasher, top rack. Maybe once a week. After having this exact bottle for a year or so paint has started to chip off. Dishwasher probably isn't helping that but otherwise it seems fine.

The spouts can be replaced, my kids go through a spout every 6 months or so, less now that they're older. Just make sure it's the eddy+ spouts vs. just regular eddy because they're not the same.

Had one of these and returned, the exposed straw is not something we are comfortable with. Would recommend the Thermos branded bottle instead.
