Not really. In fact they are IMO Amazon's best device. The only reason to upgrade is if the battery stops holding a charge, or the newer models have must have features. I recently upgraded my 1st gen Voyage (which was a hand me down from my wife when I bought her a new Oasis) to the 11th gen just for USB-C charging and Warm Backlight features. Warm light is a game changer for me since I typically read before bed and I've definitely been sleeping better since upgrading... usb-c for obvious reasons (less cables to bring when traveling).

$4 for a case is pretty good. Not in love with the color but I don't use a case on it at home so it would just be when I travel.

I bought this cover new, same color. It's not as nice as the old leather covers from the pre-USB-C models but it is still a good case all the same. It's less a soft leather, and more a hard-vinyl like leather. Well worth $5 though

Amazon also has great trade-in deals for the Kindle, so people may just be returning their old ones with the cover still on.

Especially since Amazon regularly says it's compatible when it isn't. It'll give you the pop message with the big green check mark on obviously incompatible cases.

I second this. I also have the 11th gen Paperwhite and the warm backlight is such an improvement over the previous generations. Occasionally I'll use my wife's older kindle and the difference between the backlight is jarring.
