For those of you waiting on a better deal, be aware that the regular price has gone up from last year (49.99 last year vs 59.99 this year per my notes), so the same price may not happen this year. It might be a few dollars higher. I'm tired of waiting so I am getting it now.
Newegg has had a number of gift card deals in the past few months (example https://slickdeals.net/f/17897070-10-newegg-gift-card-email-delivery-5-via-newegg). I got two of them, totaling two $10 gift cards at $5 a piece. So I spent $10 on the gift cards, plus the $2.49 left over after the code, for a total of $12.49 net in my cost for the software.
I too, am waiting… The price will get lower as the month goes on and into February.

I have no idea how this made front page… This price is mediocre at best…

Once it gets to $15 and below then it may be a slick deal but right now it's just Meh.

Jump or keep waiting until early Feb for sub $20?
I'm waiting. They usually offer some other retailer's giftcard (such as HomeDepot) bundled with the tax software to make the Deluxe + State less than $20 after giftcard amount. I bought that bundle in the past two years. Just need to be patient and wait for it.

Any benefit in this when I could use free tax stuff out there
For so reason I never get my full refunds on the free ones. I'm usually off by a few hundred compared to TT.

Never purchased software before, is there any additional costs when filing via this? or is it all included?
E-Filing the federal form should be free.
E-Filing the state form, if you file a state form, may incur a fee ($19.95 if I remember right). Depends on the state. See here for more:
https://www.hrblock.com/tax-softw...-editions/
I think NY is the only state that doesn't charge a fee.
Pretty much all the tax software programs will charge a state e-file fee.
Some states now have their own free online portals for free e-filing. In that case you print out the state return and manually enter it into the state's portal for free.

Uhm, how does "Free Tax USA" make money? Is this an internet based tax program? If it's no-cost, then they're making money somehow. You do realize how much critical personal and financial information is on your tax filings, right?
They say free to get you there. Then states are $15, plus a few other upsell options.

I have used this software for years and it usually has a price drop in Feb or March for the software only. I figure you can always buy it at this price so why not wait a bit and see if it goes down to $20 again like last year and test the waters. Even if you are wrong and the price doesn't go down you probably only lost 1 or 2 dollars by waiting. I doubt it will go sub $20 based on inflation. Just my opinion.

I'm going to grab it. Waiting for it to be $5 lower makes no difference when I owe around $12K.

Does the deluxe+state allow you to view the state pdf/form so you can e-file state by yourself? I see state efile is an additional $19.99 fee, is that correct?

If I do delivery gigs and have only 1099s from Amazon, Walmart etc and my wife only W2 as a school teacher which version of this app is enough for us to file our taxes jointly?

Yes. You can print/save the state, and just use those numbers for your states filing. Utah has a free filing option through their website, so I let the software come up with the numbers, and use the PDF to fill out the states website, instead of paying 20$ for h&r to file for me

Well, H&R doesn't offer free e-filing on states, but state tax software is included (you just have to print out and mail in). One big quest is, does the free program offer free federal e-filing?

'free tax stuff' is limited to 'basic 1099' or something. as soon as u need to do some extras (like mortgage/savings interest deductions) it won't b sufficient. Frown

HR Block gives you 5 free federal e-files.

True. I guess it all depends on what you have. The free stuff works for me right now. I used to do h&r block and TT years ago and spent a lot of money when free was sufficient. Maybe once I can afford a house in 80 years I can switch to this
