For those of you waiting on a better deal, be aware that the regular price has gone up from last year (49.99 last year vs 59.99 this year per my notes), so the same price may not happen this year. It might be a few dollars higher. I'm tired of waiting so I am getting it now.
Newegg has had a number of gift card deals in the past few months (example https://slickdeals.net/f/17897070-10-newegg-gift-card-email-delivery-5-via-newegg). I got two of them, totaling two $10 gift cards at $5 a piece. So I spent $10 on the gift cards, plus the $2.49 left over after the code, for a total of $12.49 net in my cost for the software.
I too, am waiting… The price will get lower as the month goes on and into February.

I have no idea how this made front page… This price is mediocre at best…

Once it gets to $15 and below then it may be a slick deal but right now it's just Meh.

Well....... Intuit intentionally bundled C-Dilla anti-piracy malware with their 2002 product, resulting in a lot of unnecessary headaches for users. Disabled CD-RW drives, unhaltable monitoring processes, inability to remove even with a HD format.. It was a nightmare.

https://www.nsxprime.com/threads/...uit.10510/ [nsxprime.com]

Many many users, myself included, swore to never use an Intuit product again, and 20+ years later I firmly remain in this camp. Manufacturers who take these kind of steps need to know that they will forever lose a percentage of the potential customer base... even one such decision to do this has permanently cost them business.

I moved to H&R Block that year, using Tax Cut, which has morphed to become their current product. I'll stay with them until they do something I object to.

Is the Intuit 2024 product any good? Honestly, I couldn't tell you. All I know is that I will not purchase it, and I will continue to bang the drum by reminding new customers of a decision this maker made years ago. If you choose to do business with them, terrific! But at least you're doing it with your eyes open. And if even one potential new customer decides to go in a different direction, then I've done my job.
Not that I am a fan of TT for their prices and I do not know why anybody uses them for just that reason. But that is a long time to hold a grudge and I try to shy way form that as it ends up a spiteing my nose situation. I have had trashy Fords and Chevys but went back when they had I product I found value in. The site and discussion you linked has not one mention of a real report that the software did not world as intended and is all hyperbole and drama. What was installed was just DRM software that stopped duplication of the CD. The post and discussion only points out that some people were angry at that.

Personally I save my hard grudges at people and politicians that have harmed me and many others in much more real catastrophic ways. We need that kind of grudge and anger directed at the IRS that wastes taxpayer money and hands it out like it is candy. They sent 150 million on child tax credits to two residential addresses in Atlanta. The callousness and cruelty there of wasting what taxpayers break there back for is one of the extremist evil. We see similar with what is going on in LA right now.

Block itself does a lot of stuff that is bit ugly with all the upselling and withholding of information that can save people money all that. It is not in any sense a more ethical company and you may want to shun them to. None are actually and we can see the cool hip loving and caring Apple people use slave labor

Apple and almost all green energy products use slave/forced labor. Your or your neighbors solar panels or computers have kids dying in horrific conditions. Let's save our energy, grudges and battles for the big stuff.

I am surprised you have found no other battles to fight and are still so upset over some minor computer aggravation 22 years ago. That is not healthy my friend. I have had trusted friends and family kind of stab me in the back at at times and I have had to give the hate and grudges up for my own peace of mind. Don't be so fragile and spiteful about little things and save you power for the big ones.

First thing to consider is that the free ones are not free to file state. If you need to file state you are going to pay near the price Block wants. Below is my list of other benefits I find and I find it far outweighs the free options that are not real free as I do have to file state. Even if I did not file state I would definitely pick Block at this cost just for the added features and benefit.
  • Having my returns and data local and secure.
  • Free state returns
  • No limitations on incomes or other income such as rental or self employment. (Many free options will charge for those forms)
  • Knowing I can get to my data and return even if some website is down or decides to close up shop
  • The ability to create multiple unlimited returns that friends and family can use.
  • Not having to create a new web account for each and every family member to file returns
  • Getting five free efiles that family members can use
  • Free amended returns
  • Ability to play with tax scenarios before filing or through the year to help me understand where I can save on taxes.
  • Built in local help and resources that I can access all year long
  • Knowing what the software will do versus finding out after I filling a bunch of data in some service I thought free to only find out out is not when getting ready to file.
This isn't true. Cashapp Tax, which used to be Credit Karma, is free for federal and state, including filing.

I still do not have a clear picture. What are you using to fill in state is my question. Filing it is easy, it is the filling in and calculating part I am wondering about.

Does one of the free services offer it or does your state, or are you just doing it by hand and carrying over numbers from the the online generated federal?

I think I did hear some states are offering filing on the state's websites.
Block Deluxe + State bundles the s/w needed to process a state return. It does NOT include efiling of that return. You can purchase efiling at the time, you can buy a different version that incldues state efiling..... or you can print and mail the state return.

You can turn off the condescension, "my friend".

I invite you to ignore my future posts, as I will yours.

I used TT for one year (around 2015) and found two pretty fundamental math errors in a pretty basic tax situation. I don't doubt they've fixed it, but the errors I've found with HRB have been far less serious and related to more "obscure" situations (going back to 2005 or so)

The only reason I even find this stuff is that I have a pretty good Excel model to predict my taxes and I'm always honing it against the software. Finance geekery..:
Oh, would love to get that Excel model!

What did I miss? Last week H&R paired with several other virus/internet packages was $23. Not all were great but helped keep my malwarebytes renewed.

I've always used Turbo tax always but this price is great. Is this also shady like Turbo Tax with hidden fees?

Been on TurboTax for as long as I can remember. Anyone has any luck importing TurboTax tax returns into H&R Block? I have rental income/depreciation and capital gain loss to carry over. Not sure if it's worth the risk.
From what I remember, my friend switched over from TT to H&R 2 years ago and he said both software are compatible with each other. Meaning, when he switched from TT to H&R, he was able to point H&R to his previous year's return that was prepared using TT. This way, he didn't have to manual enter all his personal info. I'm sure it works the other way around as well. They purposely make it easy to switch to get new customers from the competition I think.

Never purchased software before, is there any additional costs when filing via this? or is it all included?
I think we're allowed 5 e-files for federal (you can share the software with friends and family). E-filing for states is $20 (but there are some states where there aren't e-filing fees by law. Those states will get free e-filing. NY is one of the states). Any additional states (meaning you're filing a 2nd state) will cost you $40.

So just say you live in PA and worked in NJ. You'll have to file a federal return, a PA resident return and a NJ non resident return. The cost would be:
$23 for this Fed + State software.
E-filing for Federal is free (total of 5 free Federal e-file)
PA e-filing fee will be $20
NJ state return will cost you $40 (to download the additional NJ State return)
NJ e-filing fee will be $20
Total price is $103 (23+20+40+20).

But just say you live in a state where there is a law where e-filing is free (like NY) and you work and live in NY, the total cost will be $23 for you since you get both state and federal e-filings for free.

For those of you who use Premium, is this as low as it gets, or are there better deals in the future, like with Deluxe?
Probably about as good as you're going to find, seems like the discounted "base" pricing has increased a bit as somebody else noted. Lows for Premium + Business that I use seem to have crept up from the high 30's to the mid 40's over the past few years. You might end up saving a couple of bucks later, but you might not.

That are not hidden if you pay attention and do some reading.

This fills in and calculates federal and a state return of your choosing. You can create and create as many returns as you like but you get only five federal efiles and no state ones.

People complain about that second one but the do not promise on the package that they efile state and have notice that if you want to efile it will cost extra.

People are lately equating or confusing filing taxes with efiling taxes. You can create and file as many returns as you like on paper but only get the five federal efiles and no state. You do no have to efile state and pay any more unless you agree to it. The software will at a times try to upsell you stuff like that but be cautious of it is as it is not necessary.

I advise against paying the extra for efiling as it takes away from the cut rate price of software and is unnecessary money out of your pocket.
