I have rewatched the whole original series a couple times. Sometimes just listening to it in the background while puttering around the house. The effects, of course, are incredibly dated-looking, but I still enjoy it.

Considering Tom is the 4th Doctor, I find this reference extremely confusing. His first season is the 11th? for the series. Easily my favorite Doctor. I consider all his seasons instant classics. Most hard core fans of the series do. Hope this helps. Smilie

This is the 12th season. Tom Baker just showed up in the final moments of season 11, Jon Pertwee's last season.
Seasons 16, 17, & 20 have Douglas Adams as writer/cowriter and the 4th Doctor... kind of a great collision.
However, does Blu ray gain anything over DVD given it came from SD video.

I do the same thing. I've been watching since I was a kid. I love all of them.

It's my understanding that, where feasible, they have remastered/upscaled the video, and in some cases improved the effects. Also, the individual episodes are edited into one long show for some episodes as well.

Crazy that BBC discarded a lot of the older Dr. Who Episodes. Including a lot of the ones that developed the characters and explained the story arc. That said Tom Baker is the only one I really watched as a kid and a little of his (unfortunate) replacement. Guess I did see that one where they brought the other doctors back and I was like who are all these old guys haha. Life long Sci Fi lover though probably due to that show.

I was about 8 when it came on pbs at 11:30pm at night. I had no idea what doctor who was. I watched it and loved it. Tom Baker as the doctor was like my idol. Watching it near midnight made it scarier to me as a child. Anyhow I rediscovered it in the late 2000's when I could download video. I've been rewatching it ever since. For me it just never gets old somehow except there were a few episodes that were not so good or ones that were constantly replayed on the free tv app Pluto tv and it made me sick of watching.
Idk if this is worth the money to buy it but if you're in the USA you can watch all the old Doctor Who free on Tubi app. If these dvds had exclusive content and behind the scenes and so on I'd probably want it. Plus it's hd

Same, and if I can't sleep at night I can put on dr who and fall asleep pretty good usually. I watch it all the time when I'm bored. It's free to watch on Tubi. All the old doctors and seasons.

That was a very common practice at the BBC in the 60's. They never expected to be replaying episodes, so they would erase and reuse the video tapes to save money. There are whole series recorded around that time that are completely gone. It's amazing that they've managed to find as many episodes as they have.
There's a rumor that someone has found several of the missing episodes in an archive, but is asking for a ludicrous sum for them. Probably just a rumor, but man. It would be awesome if they could get ahold of them. I've watched the animated reconstructions, but I'm not fond of the animation style they use. I'd love to see the original episodes! Shada is the only reconstructed episode that gets a pass, since half the episode was never filmed due to a strike at the BBC.

Times were tough after the war that tape was so expensive. Shame but I love the stuff that exists.
