Careful on what you wish for, like in soil, mint grows crazy and needs heavy pruning to keep the growth in control. Mint tends to suck a lot more nutrients from the water, and other plants within the system will notice it, so keep an eye on the nutrients supply as well. Happy Aerogardening!

Edit: Tip - Visit your nearest Indian or Asian store and you will get a big bunch of mint for less than a dollar.
Herbs probably grow better then anything else in these and come out good.

Buy a generic "grow anything" kit that comes with the pods, "dirt", dome covers and just use your own seeds for most things. For lettuce I've had really good results with "Gardeners Basics Salad Greens" which you can get a 20,000 seed variety pack for like $15 on amazon. Usually do Romaine and something else then once it's done/overgrown reset and do Romaine and a different one. I will say the AeroGarden cherry tomatoes grow the best for tomato plants....haven't had much luck with others.

Trimming yes, all herbs do or they will go crazy. I never had to trim the roots though....I just let them go. Also weekly cleaning and fertilizing? They recommend draining and refilling when fertilizing every two weeks but not cleaning. The only time you should be cleaning is when resetting it to plant new things. Sounds like someone didn't follow the directions.

I have a Farm 24 Plus. One side currently has cherry tomatoes that are just turning red, the other side has a Romaine and a Buttercrunch lettuce. It's nice being able to rip off a handful of leaves from the lettuce, grab a handful of cherry tomatoes, and making a quick salad before a meal. Then in the summer I'll switch to herbs for a couple months, use some fresh and dry some for the spice rack (rosemary, thyme, oregano), then back to tomatoes/lettuce for the winter when I cant do it outside. Been doing this for 4 years now.

Note: between the cost, electricity, water, and fertilizer I'm not sure if you'll ever break even cost wise but it looks nice and it's convenient having fresh stuff to just be able to use whenever. I'm really glad they decided to keep going as a company.

Just set mine up but I'm dead certain mint is one of my starter pods. As an occasional buyer of fresh herbs, those mini organic(only option) options are painfully In the $4 ballpark. Bodega, small grocer options can be a bit cheaper since they're not pre cut, organic and (in)conveniently placed in a plastic container

Just know the company behind aerogarden (Scotts MiracleGro) ended support and the selling of the aerogarden, so 90 day warranty only and app availability/updates are unknown
Edit: Aerogarden being re-released sometime 2025

Tldr: this is essentially clearance pricing

I currently have the elite version and love it. Tempted to buy this to have in a separate location in the house

I read that they're resurfacing in the next month or so. Either way, I bought mine on prime day and it's been sitting for quite a while.

It seems like there's a good community with advice on aftermarket parts and ways to avoid paying for anything proprietary

If true, I wonder if the product line was bought out or if they revamped. The aerogarden system works very well, though for items like tomatoes, you are better off with the elite version since tomato vines grow so tall. Unless there is a way to modify the lesser systems to accomodate more height

Possibly the former unless Monsanto was on board to keep them going. You can find a note about it on their website.

Aerogarden has a message on its website that the company is returning in the spring.

They changed their mind: https://aerogarden.com/home/?srsl...kLI_SYKvh6

"To all AeroGardeners,

We heard you. You love your plants, and you love your AeroGardens. That's why AeroGarden is gearing up for a fresh, new season of indoor growing, ready to reseed your love for gardening all over again!

First, an explanation, which was grounded in the reality we faced last fall. Despite creating the tabletop hydroponic gardening category 20 years ago, the market had been challenging these past few years. And that's why we made the tough decision to wind down the business.

But your overwhelmingly positive feedback prompted us to take a second look. Just as you start your gardens anew by washing and rinsing clean, we will bring AeroGarden back in spring 2025 with an exciting energy and commitment to growth.

Even before the relaunch, we're extending many of the things that made AeroGarden great. Here's what you can expect in the near term:

Our seeds to be 100% guaranteed to grow.
The AeroGarden App to be supported and updated for gardens and grow lights.
Your AeroGarden account and history of growing to remain in effect.
Our products to be available on Amazon without interruption.
We have many details to work out as we refresh AeroGarden, and we'll share them as soon as possible. Like a budding relationship, we are taking things slow. We want to get this right - for you. Because we love our plants, too."

I got mine two years for about this price and it has been an invaluable tool for me. I struggle to grow certain herbs in my area but indoors thyme thrives. It's definitely more expensive than maintaining your own grow shelf but it works well for what it is. It also has an attachment to grow 20+ seed starters.

I've also had success in starting out seeds for my veggie garden.

DIY pods where you add your own seeds have worked great. But you can also buy aerogarden branded seeds from their website or amazon etc
