I wouldn't stay here. I've worked here for 6 years so I know. The property itself pales in comparison to other properties on Kaanapali(Sheraton, Westin, etc). The pools are subpar and the restaurant isn't very good and overpriced. The rooms were recently renovated so they could be nice but Royal Lahaina itself is far away from the kaanapali strip and the nearest mall, Whalers village. You're gonna have to either take a shuttle or walk 30 minutes to get there.

Go to the Royal Lahaina it's beautiful. I'm a flight attendant and this is once of my favorite layovers.

We've stayed there and it's the only place my family will ever consider going back to! There is NOTHING I can find that is as amazing as the ocean front cabanas! We don't care about the pool, it's steps from a picture perfect beach (which is why you go to Hawaii, no?). Would I ever stay in the tower, absolutely not. But, if you could recommend another hotel/property that has 'reasonably' priced ocean front rooms I'm all ears…

if you want the luau and with the CB, the cheapest option is about $190 per night. Not sure what the resort and spa credit would be good for, but add in the breakfast for 2 and this seems like a great deal. if you want a better location closer to everything, maybe not the best choice but seems like a good location to relax if you have already been to Maui. we went last year, and are considering this on our next trip where we would go to Oahu first, and end here just relaxing.

I used to go this resort a few years back but after Covid they got greedy and quadrupled their prices. I have since stopped going due to their prices being way too expensive. If you can afford it though, the best part is the beach. The resort itself and facilities are very dated like from the 80's.

I would totally agree with this take on pretty much everything. I stayed here just 3 months ago and would not recommend it. The staff is not all that friendly either. Free breakfast was not very good at all…kind of close to what I would call a continental breakfast if that is what you like.

The Outrigger near Lahaina is pretty nice. Or another option is the AC hotel by Marriott in Wailea/Maui. If you're wanting to stay on the Hana/Maui side of the island I would recommend the Hyatt.
AC Marriott in Wailea has nice views, but you are driving to the beach. I think those two Marriots on the hill are way overpriced.

Most of Front st Lahaina is still a rubble pile, but the rest of Maui has been fine for a long time now. We went last year on an already planned trip a couple months after the fire. Road to Hana was very light traffic wise it was great

Reminder: Lahaina town and the surrounding area around Ka'anapali Alii pretty much burned to the ground.

I stayed at kaanapali beach hotel many years ago, but went out for dinner and shopping and touristy stuff at Lahaina on Front street. So with Lahaina and all the restaurants and shopping gone now, where do people go who are staying in the kaanapali area? when I was there, there weren't many restaurants and shopping and touristy stuff, in Kaanapali, just mostly hotels. So these days, is it worth staying at kaanapali if there is no Lahaina to go out in?

This is an amazing deal although I'm too spoiled after staying at the Westin for 5x more to jump on it

How does the Westin, Sheraton and Marriott compare with each other?

I get that some people enjoy the hotel experience but I just don't think it makes sense in Hawaii anymore. My last 5 trips to Hawaii have all been at far superior VRBO's that not only have better locations but better amenities (full kitchen, full fridges, free and better parking etc.). You can find a VERY nice VRBO in Kaanapali for around $250 to $300 a night that will blow this hotel out of the water. Check out the Maui Kai in Kaanapali. Your condo is literally over the ocean and it's in the best possible location in Maui.

Okay, but the walk to Whaler's Village is only 20 minutes if you take the beach walk and cut through the Sheraton.

I think there's still enough restaurants in and around Kaanapali. If you drive a few minutes north of Kaanapali there's a shopping center with a few good restaurants as well. Plus a couple of the nice north end Lahaina restaurants did survive and are open. Aloha Mixed Plate survived and is pretty good. Since you will probably go to the Hana side a couple days while you are there, just arrange it so that you stop in for an early dinner in and around the airport area. There are tons of amazing restaurants there. I was there last October and I didn't feel my experience was that affected by the loss of Lahaina. In fact, it forced me to explore other parts of the island which I enjoyed immensely.

Road to Hana was such a let down imo. I don't get the appeal. Guess I was just jaded prior to driving it.
You are in the minority. If you can't find enjoyment in exploring all the nooks and crannies of the Road to Hana I kind of feel bad for you. You shouldn't just "drive through." Stop and explore. It's amazing. I would also recommend that everyone be brave and drive the scary one lane part at least once in their lives. Live a little.

i got married at this resort in 2018 and absolutely loved the whole experience and the hotel! i honeymooned at the hyatt regency down the road for 2 weeks, which was a lot nicer as expected lol. lots of family/friends stayed at the marriot & westin next door too. all of the hotels and resorts were stunning. no complaints whatsoever. yeah whalers village is a bit of a walk, but it's a pretty walk along the beach. not sure how much things have changed in the last 6-7 years

So, there's not a whole lot left there of the 'old Lahaina' ..

If you're just using this as a reason to go to Maui, fine. But don't expect this to be a dream vacation. There are better options on Kauai and Big Island.
OOC, and I say this with respect, who decides to go to Maui predominantly because they want to go to Lahaina town!? We went not long after the fire and had a great time. It was terrible to see what the fire did to the people and the area but with so much of their economy based on tourism think it's actually good for people to continue to go. People, and I think most are, just need to be respectful of the area (don't sneak in) and I wouldn't purposely bring it up with a local as they, or someone they know/care for likely was and are still impacted in some way.

I walked through this hotel the last time I was there and do have to agree that it's not the best but for the price it's not a bad deal either given what the hotels everywhere are currently going for.

From what I see it's about double the price, I would expect it to be nicer for that. Guess it depends on dates and availability, but what are seeing as far as price?
