Precious metals are only a hedge against inflation on extremely big time horizons (centuries). They're just as volatile as anything over typical human lifespans. So unless you plan to live to 200, buying silver is not a hedge against inflation. Please people, just buy S&P 500 ETFs. Stop gambling your money like this...

Diversified "investments". To me PMs are a way to hold "cash" that's less susceptible to inflation. It's not an investment per se.Also they're pretty damn cool to stack.
In my experience, PMs are only a hedge against anticipated inflation. When inflation starts going up, people flock to PMs to "hedge" against it, but when it falls back to a more moderate rate PMs plummet. Gold hit ~$1600/oz in 2011, then plummeted and didn't reach that number again until 2020. Same with 1980, it didn't reach that price again until ~2008. Nobody is going to try to claim that we didn't have inflation between 1980 and 2008, or between 2011 and 2020. At this point it's all about supply and demand, and if people start demanding it the price goes up. When people start selling it, the price will plummet.

Are you more prepared owning some silver, or not owning silver? It's a simple rhetorical question to ask yourself when confronted with statements calling PM's "crap".

If your ownership of precious metals is within two orders of magnitude of your ownership of SPY, then you are in fact less prepared for life. $600 of silver -> you should have at least $60,000 in SPY.

Seems like a good value and possible money maker. If I only had a membership...

I can confirm you are better off buying silver than anything else on slickdeals.
