Can I use this as a UPS for a modem? Or does it damage the battery using it that way

You would want to get something like an Ecoflow River 3 for that.

According to price tracker, it hits $99.99 quite regularly.

Too bad it doesn't have a 12v car cigarette lighter type outlet to run my portable fridge off of for few hours.

I picked this up last week at the same price for when Bird Flu gets us and I need to charge my phone/iPad/laptop. It seems okay for small power needs. Solar panel connectivity will be required when we need to hunker down. The listing suggests a 100W Anker Solar Panel that is running $299. Is there any advice on a more economical solar panel setup with which anyone has direct experience?

I'm sure you can find a adapter for that!

I just looked, but have not found one that can provide adequate wattage.

The ones that say up to 60 watts have reviews stating they don't work.

Most appear to be aimed at using a radar detector, not a portable fridge.

The refurb River 3 is a better deal for $115 as it has a bigger battery, proper 12v outlet and ac outlets, and can be used as an ups.

Just don't get the point of this item. You'd want something with 12v or 110v or a standard power bank. This is like the worst of both worlds, too bulky to fit in a backpack and too weak for camping / emergency power.

Pretty much any 100w solar panel will work. You just need an mc4 to xt60 cable as most all panels use mc4 connectors and this has an xt60 solar input.

This is fine for camping. Most people only need to recharge their cell phones, camera batteries or rechargeable flashlights. Putting a 6' LED light strip on this will provide several days of light non-stop or a week of night time use.... Add a 50w travel solar panel and you have unlimited days of light and cell phone recharging.

There are so many deals on portable battery units theses days. Are they just trying to move inventory or over concern that either large increases in Chinese import tariffs or large domestic bans or 100% tariffs on impoted battery tech will kill ANY market share.

I'm not advocating for or against this power supply, just giving my tinkerer input on your dilemma.

I, for one, actually like the fact that this doesn't have a cigarette lighter port, as that is a very large connector that I wouldn't personally need. Those ports are normally fused at 10A in cars, and the same amount of power can be delivered through a more compact USB-C port with PD protocol.

Since you can pull 140W through the USB-C port, you shouldn't have a problem powering any cigarette-lighter port devices. Look into a "USB-C PD Decoy". They're dirt cheap and basically handle the negotiation to have the power supply (power bank in this case) output a higher voltagge. If you set one to 12V, you'll get 60W to run to your out. Set the decoy to 28V and throw a small buck converter in the mix to step it down to 12V, and you should be able to pull 10A from it.

Yeah it's extra work, but you could package all that in a small 3D printed enclosure that takes up about as much room as the cigarette lighter plug. Also, I feel like this is something that should alrady exist but I can't find anything.
