Anyone know how I could buy 6 cards? I need to replace my water softener and I was waiting until it went on sale or at least the %11 cash back from Menards . I assume that Menards will have it lower than %15 but at 15% off I could probably get it from Ace sooner. added bonus Ace is in town Menards is a 3-hour round trip.

you would need 6 paypal accounts. and since you cant really do that, reach out to some friends and have them all buy one and send it to you and then give them $85 each.
i have a few friends that do this for me every sale so i can get woodstove pellets 15% off.

I've never bought anything there..I don't think..
The new ace in the new shopping center by FedEx stadium went out of business..
I'm guessing the one in the more country location near me might stay afloat.
Anyone know how ace is doing? Be a shame to buy this and they go out of business.
What do they have good deals on?
Ace is generally going to be higher priced than any big box store, but you're partly paying the premium for the convenience of having one nearby because they're individually owned stores so you're supporting local business owners by shopping them.
My local Ace often carries oddball parts and connections that are special order at Lowes/Menards/HomeDepot, their paint line-up is superior as far as I'm concerned, it's a great place to get bulk fasteners, and they frequently have discounts on Ace Branded items (tools, air filters, etc.) and on Craftsman and Dewalt tools—these sales usually bring them in line with big box stores but at 15% off and 5 minutes away from me, I'll use Ace every time.
Anecdotal experience: I bought a similar deal on a digital Ace $50 GC a few months ago, and I tried probably 5 times to use it in store on different occasions. Nobody could figure out how to approve it. I live in a fairly rural area. I ended up using it online for a purchase but if you plan on using it in store just know it might be a rocky experience.

This is a common experience. Their system is weird, I believe they have to enter basically like a credit card. The girl at the register usually has to ask the experienced guy every time I go in.

Obviously a pretty specific item, but Ace's tend to sell wood pellets, and these sorts of things are a great way to save $$ on something that is very rarely discounted. That's what I use them for.
But True Value just went bankrupt and was bought by another company. True Value also runs independently owned/operated franchises like Ace, so those will be just fine for ones that are rooted in communities.
Ace outright gouges people with markups that are mind boggling. Example - I needed a can of WD40 silicone lubricant. I was near an Ace. I stopped in. It was $15.99 for 1 can. It's $9.99 at True Value. And $8.99 at Home Depot/Harbor Freight
The last time I had stepped foot into an Ace Hardware before that, was during a sale on Craftsman 2 gallon shop vacs 15 yrs ago. They were being sold for $12.99 each during some special sale

I have no inside information, but I'm in Pensacola, and they just built a new one near me on prime real estate. Since these are franchises, I think, I doubt someone would put that kind of money into a franchise if the company was about to go out of business. The big box stores and Amazon put a lot of pressure on small hardware stores, but I like Ace, and am glad I've got one close to me now.

every time ive done it it is the same experience. they have to call a manager over and enter the card by number. its incredibly stupid, but worth the 15% savings on items that would never go on sale.
I know it's unheard of these days, but I did confirm the card doesn't expire in the terms and conditions.
Most people don't realize that a while back Congress passed a law and it's actually illegal for gift cards to expire in less than 5 years unless they fit a very narrow purpose, which these wouldn't. Technically, if you have a gift card that expires before, you should be able to have it reissued.
Huge YMMV when dealing with crooked GC issuers but the CFPB has an outstanding page clarifying its interpretation of the law.

I think the gouging is highly specific to the store based on the owner. My local Ace might be 20% more expensive than Lowe's on certain things that aren't their bread and butter, but that largely comes down to buying power. A franchisee of a smaller company isn't getting the same wholesale rate that a mega-corp like Lowe's gets across their entire supply chain, and that's reflected in their pricing.
Every Ace has a niche. They actually delivered some Plexiglas sheets to my door for free when they had them on hand since I'm a rewards member and it was over $50 and local. Lowes, which was already a little more expensive, was going to charge me freight shipping or I'd have to drive an hour round trip to get them myself. My Ace also doubles as a UPS pickup location, which is super convenient.
I don't have a True Value near me, but I suspect they were trying to compete directly with other big box store prices in everything to keep customers coming but they were too aggressive with too little volume by comparison.
