Then I'd check their site where I have some credits available, and lo and behold the price after max credits was also about the same.

This is absolutely true. I had an eye on one of their units previously and every time there was an eBay coupon that applied I found that the after coupon price was exactly what the regular price was on Amazon.

Its likely brand new, they just have agreements to not sell new below a certain price. This is a great price imo
