I used to think that too…but on newer cars many have some pretty rigid vent slats. I just got the other plastic model of this product on the other post (also Lisen) and its surprisingly well-crafted in terms of the mechanism to secure onto a vent. I attached it to a friend's 2016 Accord and its surprisingly sturdy.

The only caveat is that you cant tilt that vent much any longer since its attached so securely.

Edit: after looking thru some of the reviews where the vents broke, it seems the commonality is that theyve attached it without positioning the protruding ridges in the North/South position (showcased in the 4th product photo on the OP) and left them in the E/W alignment. The ridges on the spinning mechanism tightening the ball-joint seem to need to be positioned so that they rest on the parallel vent slats offering more support for the entire unit.

I've used vent mounted holders for over a decade on at least a half dozen different kinds of cars with zero issue.

I'll never understand why people like to hang things off their vents on the car! They will eventually break & the vents will not function

Did not work on most vehicles I have tried it on: Acura, Honda, BMW, Audi and Porsche. The hook part was too large or the way the mount was installed makes the phone flop around. I had big hopes and even purchased two of them. Big YMMV

I can't speak to this specific mount, but I've been using a vent mount in my 2 cars for about 10 years now without any issue or vents breaking. I'm sure some people end up with broken vents, but honestly I think most people do just fine.

This has been the biggest issue for me (not the vents). Multiple times I've had to remove my phone from the holder because it got too warm

Perhaps you should do some research so you may understand 🤔

Same. Living in a hot climate, I need my vents. I have a MagSafe dash mount instead.

THIS is a valid reason for not using vent clips (breaking the vent has never happened to me in many, many years). That said, my current car has the ability to totally close off the vent and not allow any airflow. The other vents on the dashboard are sufficient for heating and cooling. So closing the one with the phone has no impact. Same can't be said for my wife's car. Phone gets insanely hot when mounted on a vent. Often got alerts on the phone for excessive heat. Had to move it.

This is very YMMV. Close the vent in the winter, open them in the summer. Where I live, it feels like summer for 9 months of the year so the AC is running which helps the phone keep cool.

Is this worth getting if you car vents are only horizontal and can't be turned vertical?
