It's enough if you use Cloud storage. Or just grab an external hard drive or usb thumb stick
Or, Apple could make 512GB the base like when they upped the RAM to 16GB after a decade of silly 8GB base models. Seriously, it's like a $10 NAND chip they need to solder to the pad that's already on the system board. Instead, they want to charge you $200 for that $10 chip and they know most people realize 256GB might not be enough for 4-5 years of photos, etc. and they bite. Cha-ching!
Funny how when someone brings it up, the post gets hugely downvoted or people say "use the cloud" at $3-$10 per month at which point you might as well pony up the $200 and not need "the cloud" for an eternity.
There are very few Windows laptops that come with 256GB nowadays (almost all come with 512GB and many low-cost laptops even come with a full 1TB because STORAGE IS CHEAP, but the ones that come with 256GB--at least you can pop out the SSD and go buy something bigger for pocket change.
For $1000, you'd think Apple could at least give you a card reader and you could pop in a fast SD card to store stuff, but no...they couldn't do that.
External drive or thumb drive? Just what I want to carry around with my ultra-light MBA -- and, just when you need it, you left it at home!
It will be a great day when Apple makes base model Mac's with 512GB.

256 gb is insufficient for most people. Funny how this is the model that is always on sale and never the 512 gb. I wonder why.
Exactly. 256 to transfer all your files from previous Mac plus the OS. The next OS update will tell you-that you don't have enough space and buy iCloud.
256gb is a crime on laptops. The idiotic suggestions that I should pay for iCloud or carry an external storage are moronic
One I don't want to be forced to carry a monthly subscription when another $10 would done the problem. Teri, this is Apple's forcing of users by not giving a choice to upgrade the RAM or storage. Three I don't want to carry another gadget that I can forget or lose. Three, it's a damn laptop. I shouldn't have to lug around extra accessories just to use.
Yeah, not paying close to thousand dollars for a machine that will be unusable in 6 months. Apple can take a tiny hit of $10 per laptop and sell something that actually lasts more than a year when charging $1000

Why did you type this? Nobody cares about your opinion. You don't like it? Then you just pass. Or do you think that you are that smart and you have opened someone eyes? Lol
$850 might be the lowest price you'll see on this since i read somewhere that apple will discontinue this model when m4 comes out and stick to the m2 as the base model

Same advice to you. You don't want to read, just skip. I didn't ask for your opinion. lol
It's crazy to think that the starting storage on MacBooks hasn't changed in a decade. 256gb has been the standard since 2015 🤦
The MacBook Air shipped with a 128gb SSD all the way up to and including the 2019 model. It wasn't until the 2020 Intel model that a 256gb SSD became the default configuration.
Also, 8gb wasn't standard until the 2017 MacBook Air models.

Agree it should last 4-5 yrs. without any issues. I have a 2020 MB pro and its still works fine. My biggest complaint is the battery life. i think i get 1-2hrs on it now. That is the biggest dropped in battery heard of. I don't know if this is normal for other laptops. Even new i don't think it was getting anywhere closed to the so call 10hrs. battery life. Now my dilemma is get a M3 air or pay several hundred to replace the battery.
Assuming your 2020 is M1 and not Intel it should have plenty of useful life left. Apple sells OEM replacement batteries now, may be worthwhile
Apple Refurbished on Apple.com has the same model for $829.00. I have bought a few items from Apple.com that are refurbished and they are like brand new.

Not a bad deal but this model was $844 brand new fairly recently. (on closer look that is a bad deal, since it's 8GB and not 16GB)
