Selling for the full $800 at Crutchfield and it's a Class A/B amplifier, as well. I was just looking at an AV forum where somebody bought a refurb RX-A2A for $600 in 2023 and another person sold a used one for $649 in 2024. So, brand new for $400 in 2025 seems like a damn good deal. Probably deserves more TU's than the deal currently is getting.
good deal but i would get at least the A4A for full 4k/120 hdmi bandwidth

Does anyone know if this is a simple update to get 4k/120hz to work or would it need a new board?

I have been a Yamaha fan for the last 16 years ever since I bought my first yammy rx-v1800 in 2008. Since then, I have owned several mid tier models and still have 3 of them in use at my house. Therefore it was a very easy suggestion when a friend of mine was looking for a receiver and for this use case, I ended up recommending this model. I must admit that I have been quite disappointed and frustrated with this model when we tried to set it up. The on screen UI still looks vintage and I just couldn't figure out how to setup an external amp for zone 2 (whole house speaker system). I eventually recommended him to simply return this unit and get a marantz. I was looking to upgrade to a newer yammy for myself but I will hold off now.

I've got two Yamaha AVRs and like the sound, but would push my budget a bit and grab the Integra DRX 3.4 with Dirac. That is probably the best deal in several years on a very solid AVR.

Excellent deal. I've been on a hunt to replace my RX-A780 ever since I got an Xbox that supports VRR and ALLM. Going through my TV and back to my receiver has caused the audio to sporadicly and frequently drop out. Hopefully these units are from after Autumn 2021 which is when they started including boards that don't have the HDMI bug.

For those concerned about the bandwidth, yes it's limited to 24Gbps. Unless your TV supports DSC compression, you will get just a black screen trying to play 8K60. 4K120 does work at 4:2:0 chroma sampling. If you need uncompressed 8K then your only option is to step up to the A4A or go with a different manufacturer.

I had the smaller brother of this model and returned it: 1. It's gigantic. Probably the biggest hifi component I ever owned. 2. The menu feels like from the 80ties. In general, for 90% of cases you want to use the menu via a TV - and this looks very dated.

You've probably already looked into it, but thought I'd ask: Is there an updated firmware/software version available for your TV?
