The Eternals, the ruling class of the Future, had the power of life and death not only over every human being but over the very centuries into which they were born. Past, Present, and Future could be created or destroyed at will.
You had to be special to become an Eternal. Andrew Harlan was special. Until he committed the one unforgivable sin—falling in love.
Eternals weren't supposed to have feelings. But Andrew could not deny the sensations that were struggling within him. He knew he could not keep this secret forever. And so he began to plan his escape, a plan that changed his own past . . . and threatened Eternity itself.

One of those stories that teaches one of the 'big lessons' as I call them, necessary to human growth. And also was likely a large inspiration for one of the better disney marvel shows.
I did not enjoy foundation or I robot. Would this be the one to go for for a third try? I studied engineering and I definitely prefer Dune's "anyone who talks about advanced technology immediately gets nuked"... I only believe there's one Dune book though and I just read it over and over again...
This book makes Back to the Future look like child's play. Considering the publish date of this novel, Isaac Asimov proves that he is ahead of his time even today. I have not really read many time-travel intesive books but Hollywood can't compare to the master of Science Fiction. This was a rather short read for me as I had just finished the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The pace of the book is a bit slow at the beginning but picks up quickly toward the end. I enjoyed the time perspective change from the main character and found it to be rather unique. If you are an Asimov fan and haven't read this book, you are cheating yourself out of a good read.

Give this a try. Another good book is The Gods Themselves.
Cannot possibly recommend this more. I'm a huge Asimov fan. I've read almost all of his books two times over. This one is one of his most intriguing stories unrelated to the other series of the galactic empire robots or the foundation that Asimov is well known for.
Even though this book was written such a long time ago, the sheer strength of ideas in this book is astounding. It's one of the most original stories of this type that you will ever read even compared to the books now. There are also several themes and ideas in this book that Asimov did not write in any of his other books or short stories.
Just read it and be patient. It might start slowly in the beginning but it really builds up and the climax is absolutely astounding. I have the hardcover of this book. However, I still bought the ebook just to support The late author and his foundation.

I agree with the starting off slow. It has been 20 years since I read this, but looking back at my review, I know I loved the book. It is definitely is worth a reread.

Fully agree. There are so many original ideas in the book. Personally I did not find it slow at all, even in the beginning. However, for the uninitiated, it might take a little while to grasp the world that Asimov creates over here.

Thanks! I would've loved I robot as like a "Scary Door" episode (twilight zone! I was blanking...)
If you are interested in robots, check out Caves of Steel, the first proper "Robot Novel". It has my favorite character of all, Daneel Olivaw in a team up with a human detective. It is a fairly good murder mystery that incorporates the Three Laws.
