Most optometrists and ophthalmologists recommend preservative free moisturizing drops, aka artificial tears. Most also recommend against using these types of vasoconstrictor drops as they can make the underlying condition worse.

This masks what's causing the redness, so more temporary. It has preservatives and vasoconstrictor that can cause rebound redness.

Not true. I have really awful allergies. I usually try the one made specifically for allergies. It does help during pollen season.

Opcon-A or Naphcon-A are good for eyes allergy. They used to be prescription meds.
