I got this for my mom for Christmas and it's fantastic for web browsing. There's an extra (empty) RAM slot, and the M.2 is upgradable. The screen is mediocre but it's so cheap, you can't complain. Also, there's no pre-installed bloatware other than the basic Microsoft crap, so there's no need to do a Windows wipe.

I know this may be a tough question to answer, but is there a way to find out if an open-box laptop comes with a charger? The last open-box laptop I bought, unfortunately, came without one and, sadly, was DOA.
You open it on the spot and return it if not. They are supposed to come with one.

Could it be possible the open-box items are just returns from those ones purchased through BF?

It is very easy to convert this to regular windows.

Then keep wishing or pay up for a spec when the monitor is perfectly fine like it is. Get a grip.

Would be cautious with Asus, the battery in mine screwed up after the warranty. 2 years old, stayed on charger but only used once a week. I have to leave it plugged in or it instantly dies.
if you keep laptops plugged in 24/7 as workstations, the battery can inflate.

All Best Buy open box items are customer returns, display units or if you are lucky a box that was opened in store so a customer could inspect a laptop model that that store did not have on display but than the customer did not buy it.

I buy a lot of BestBuy opened box items. There is no way to know in advance the exact condition. BestBuy does huge volume.
The grading is also subjective and additionally some employees make grading mistakes.
I gave had wide variation both with items being worse than graded and others better. Overall I'm satisfied but sometimes have deal with some annoying stuff.
Never had anything DOA though, surprised about that as all OB computers go through Geek Squad.

Just picked up an Open Box - Good for $182.99 for my dad.
Overall, in great condition. The box tag stated it had some residue but was easily cleaned off. No dead pixels.
I ran all the windows and firmware update and uninstalled all the bloatware and disabled everything from startup.

Using Edge with 3 tabs open, and one playing YouTube HD, Task masker was showing around 12-17% CPU usage and about 65% memory. Memory idles around 50%.
My dad's primary usage is Youtube and basic 1-2 tab browsing. Great for ~$200!
