I just picked up two of these a couple weeks ago at costco for $49.97 each with the addon hose and fuel filter. This price is not slick.

Price may not be slick but a few years ago, we lost power for a week in freezing temps in Houston. The fireplace was not doing the job well at all. 4 of us huddled in one room the entire time with this heater. It was a lifesaver and in the moment money was no option. Great to have in an emergency.

I think all propane heaters produce a certain amount of carbon monoxide so prob best used with a CO detector in the same room. Product does have this so that's good: "With the Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) and accidental tip-over safety shut-off you can be sure that you will enjoy years of comfortable indoor safe heat.**"

We bought the 12k BTU Mr. Heater MH12B hunting buddy a couple weeks ago from Walmart fo $69. Barely heats our insulated two car garage in NoVA to a comfortable temperature. It has electronic ignition rather than piezo, which is nice.
this is the Mr.Heater you need for 2 car garage...

which city costco?
I saw some Monday in Puyallup, WA. I couldn't find them on the app, though. I tried putting that location in. I guess some things you have to go to the store to see.

Don't the Big Buddys go for about this on sale? They are much better imo.

You need like a 50k BTU heater for a garage, not a weeny 12k heater that's intended for cabins and campsites...

Recently bought the 18000 BTU version of this to heat the garage. It's supposed to have an emergency low oxygen safety system. However, with the garage door slightly open, there was a very strong smell and it was making me and my wife feel sick.

I then got this one: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Mr-He.../316812709

Even though it's supposedly an outdoor version, I'm able to use this one in the garage, with the same amount of garage door opening, with no issues.

I wasn't aware of the existence of refillable tanks. (I am a newbie.)

Do you refill the tanks at a store or from your own 25-lb tank? Which stores offer refilling, if any?
Thanks.
I think most people are filling them at home. I've never tried refilling these at a station but I doubt any have the connection or want to spend their time filling 1lb tanks.

They make cheap adapters that fit on a 25 pounder. You will need to flip the tank upside down though. You can do this on a table or there are plenty of cheap kits online that include a stand.

Also be aware that the cheap Coleman 1lb tanks will eventually rust on the inside if you refill them a bunch. Flame King makes refillable tanks that are coated inside and will last much longer. I haven't purchased any yet but from the reviews they seem to be reputable and of high quality.

Go to a local tool rental company or propane dealer to fill up your 25-lb tank at a drastically lower cost than the grocery store tank exchange. The tank exchange clearly states they only fill to 15 lbs but a refill fills the tank up normally.

I believe they're actually 20 pound tanks. Unless you guys are using something different. Tractor supply will fill the full 20 pounds for about eighteen to nineteen dollars. Otherwise I exchange the expired tanks at a grocery store by my house. They swap for $20.99 and advertise 17lbs of propane. The worst deal is at ace hardware. Last I knew they were still giving a 15 pound fill and charging $23.99 😬 😳

You can also buy the refillable ones too that size.

There is also an adapter to use the 25 pound tanks, but it's against code to use the big tanks inside, cough cough.
If I buy a 20lb tank, can I use the heater inside the house with the tank?

You can.
But it's not recommended. If that hose starts to leak or the tank does, You would be in a lot of trouble. At the very least , I would not go to sleep with that thing running on a tank in the house. I bought a ton of flame king one pound tanks. I just refill those myself.

It would be nice if they have one that uses the small cylinder (the one uses for portable stove for camping). In California, I ONLY need to heat the room for 5-15 mins then turn OFF and go to sleep.

Amazon buyers beware: You cannot return this item for any reason including defects. I know. Because I bought one that had a pic of the unit showing that it had a fan switch and it turns out that it doesn't have one despite the picture showing that it did. When I asked to return, I got a "this item is not returnable-contact the Mfg." But read the one star reviews. People got defective ones and couldn't return them either. Perhaps buying from Walmart is a better option just in case.
