Available from:About this book:
  • Slaughterhouse-Five, an American classic, is one of the world's great antiwar books. Centering on the infamous World War II firebombing of Dresden, the novel is the result of what Kurt Vonnegut described as a twenty-three-year struggle to write a book about what he had witnessed as an American prisoner of war. It combines historical fiction, science fiction, autobiography, and satire in an account of the life of Billy Pilgrim, a barber's son turned draftee turned optometrist turned alien abductee. As Vonnegut had, Billy experiences the destruction of Dresden as a POW. Unlike Vonnegut, he experiences time travel, or coming "unstuck in time."

I like how everyone has their own tastes.
I just finished this book. I liked the conversational writing style. I liked the goofy premise. But after finishing the book, I couldn't help but feel like I wasted my time. The plot wasn't wrapped together, or strong enough to hold the book together. It tried to be funny, but then tried to be serious. I just felt like the book didn't know what it was.
I read it through my digital public library and was happy I didn't spend money on it :-/
All that said, I'm positive there are books I love that you wouldn't, and am glad we're all reading

I love this book, and I accepted the premise that Billy Pilgrim had become unstuck in time. Then my son told me that Billy Pilgrim is actually mentally ill. Do you have any opinions?

Be careful. I already had two versions of this book in my library. They slap a new cover on it, and call it a different book.

Thank you. I thought I was alone in the thinking this book was vastly overrated..
