For what it's worth, COSTCO will have the 2 piece Samsonite Element XLT 2.0 set in the link below for $149 (after $50 instant rebate) during the next sale starting January 29. I believe the COSTCO Samsonite one is POLYCARBONATE rather the one in this thread.

Anyone dealt with OTHER brand warranties?

I have Samsonite, it claims a 10 year warranty...but to use the warranty you must drive the luggage to a Samsonite Store (in my case a mall about an hour away), then PAY SHIPPING for them to send it to a repair center ($20).
At the end of the experience I didn't think it was worth the hassle.

Samsonite now makes luggage with patented shells made from multilayered PE that they claim to be as good or better than VPC in all properties, though, they charge an arm and leg for these cases. So if you would find a VPC-made luggage at a reasonable price, go for it. I bought a large designer suitcase on clearance for about $130, and my wife consistently stuffed it to the airline weight limit for years with no travel damage whatsoever.

So out of all of them the Samsonite azure 3 comes out on top because it's listed as polycarbonate/abs compared to all the others that are listed as polypropylene

Unfortunately, the overall dimensions of the large suitcase at 63 inches in this deal and 62.5 inches for the costco deal are greater than the max airline allowed total dimensions of 62 inches. I would be curious if anyone has gotten the $200 fee for oversize baggage with luggage of these dimensions.

I think the samsonite name is just for show nowadays. I just checked out some samsonite luggages at staples. Their construction feels cheap and is just like any other no name brand. The handles are loose. The sides feel just like shitty abs. The only thing is their wheels are super smooth, however I bet most of them are like this too, I just didn't bother testing the rest.

I just went through this experience and it was actually quite pleasant apart from the 2-hour roundtrip drive. On one of my pieces, they repaired some zippers and seams as a courtesy and shipped it back to me. The other they replaced under warranty. Both were purchased around 7 years ago

I have travelled to overseas destinations for years and observed luggage check in. Never have I once seen any check in person charging extra for what might be 1 or 2 inches over on checked bags. But, if you exceed the weight limit (50 lbs per bag or 23 Kg), then yes, they might ask you to take things out.

Correct; it almost never makes sense to enforce the warranty on luggage. So buy good luggage to begin with.

I'm not sure that's exactly correct. PC is heavier but more durable. https://www.uvplastic.com/blog/po...onate.html The Costco double set that was referenced on this thread was about 10.5lbs where the PP was 9.5lbs. It's only a 1lbs difference, and I really just want a carry on and a big bag to check, so I'm going to wait for the 29th and get the PC Costco set.

You could try the one in the link below made of polycarbonate. Different brand but supposedly good quality, made of polycarbonate, but no fancy design.
