$144 isn't an amazing price. $120 is not an uncommon price on the DT 770 Pro. And the X basically just adds a removable cable. Idk if that's worth $24.

This is the lowest price I've seen for this set. DT 770 pro X normally sells around $200, with an occasional $179 sale. This combo with the rigid case adds about $20 to both of those prices.

This is not the same headphone as the original DT 770 pro. Different drivers, different cable system, slightly different tuning. This is a great price for a very popular headphone, which is an updated version (X) of an even more popular headset (original 770 pro).

A buyer could enjoy these for a couple years and if well cared for would be able to later sell them used for $120 to $140, which makes this reduced purchase price a really great deal.

Anyone wanting the original DT 770 pro 250 ohm, the same seller, same coupon code, would bring it down to $110 which is also a good price for a great headphone. This seller is a beyerdynamic authorized reseller and these refurbished are generally just a new open box return that have been inspected. Or the second link below is same item, same retailer, but new plus a headphone stand for $120. All are great deals, but the original post for 770 pro X at $144 remains the best deal for those who can swing the extra few $$.

Hopefully final edit. Same original DT 770 pro, but 32ohm version. New open box. $88. Looks like only one left.

They also switched the slider mechanism which has a habit of breaking due to the cheap plastic housing.
Had to order a replacement for my DT770 pro last week.

I call these (well, the original DT770s) my "winter cans." The velour cups are very warm and super comfy, but can get sweaty depending on your body. Plan to replace them every couple years, as they can yellow, especially if you're a sweaty monkey like me.

They are excellent. Don't let that deter you. At least they CAN be maintained and cups replaced so you're not buying a new set of headphones due to the leather cracking and falling off and getting in everything!

The removable cable is DEFINITELY worth $24 on these, it's a huge problem spot over time

Is there a significant difference between the 770, 990, 1770 and 1990?

770, 700, 1770, etc are all closed back.
990, 900, 1990, etc are all open back.
Of course the 1770 1990 versions are higher tier. They are heavier weight, heavier builds. They cost 2x to 3x the price. Each person would have to do their own research and testing to learn if the higher cost models are worth the premium cost.
For someone asking those questions, and not having familiarity with the different models , then I'd easily recommend them stay in the more affordable models. Getting 90% to 95% of the performance at 1/3 the cost is always going to be the higher value, lower risk. At that point, for someone interested in the beyerdynamic line, it then comes down to open back or closed back 990/900 vs 770/700.

The dt 770 x is 48 ohms. Most portable devices can handle that without a dedicated amp, but you of course can get more out of them with an amp.
This is probably one of many good options for someone who wants to use for dual purpose. It can be used as-is with a laptop or phone, but its also worthy of connecting to a dedicated headphone Amp.

I swore off BeyerDynamic after I bought a pair of DT-990's and had to take them off before the end of the first song I listened too with them on for fear my ears were going to explode due to the piercing highs!
