Odd mix of features, and has one slot with 8gb soldered RAM with one slot available, although the display has some solid specs.

Where do you see one slot available? While technically you are right but only a fool would change the memory. Having dual channel memory is way more fast then single channel memory. If you add 32GB, I believe the system will treat the memory as single channel.
In most scenarios, 16GB of dual channel DDR5 will be faster than 40GB of single channel DDR5, as the dual channel configuration significantly increases memory bandwidth, resulting in better overall performance, even if the single channel has a larger total capacity.

Single channel ddr5 is slower than the virtual memory in SSD? I don't think so...

So I asked AI... what does a one handed clap sound like? And I was amazed.

Anywhoozle, I once benchmarked single channel vs dual channel. The difference was negligible. Real world and not just hypothetically, It's better to have more RAM than to limit yourself to a smaller amount just for the effort of keeping a matched pair.
Having said that, the eBay page claims max RAM supported by this laptop is 24 gigs. It's hard to believe a 2023 laptop wouldn't recognize a 32-gig stick of RAM isn't it? However, the ASUS VivoBook K6602 page confirms max RAM = 32 gigs, but only if the soldered stick is a 16 gigger. (https://www.asus.com/laptops/for-...led-k6602/) Maybe there'll be a BIOS update in the future to change that? *shrug*
On the other hand, the fact that a thin, lightweight laptop has a non-soldered slot at all seems to be rare and special in this market. I don't recall the last time I saw a thin-style laptop with an empty or upgradeable slot -- only in business workstations (Thinkpads, for example) and gaming laptops. Add that this VivoBook exceeds the minimal 60 Hz display, has better than an Intel Iris Xe video chipset, a CPU that outperforms the current gen Core Ultra 7 155H (https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Com...vsm2039665), and could probably be powered by a GaN USB-C charger (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DNYL45VG/ for example) and this laptop promises to be pretty special for under a grand.
