We have connections like display port and thunderbolt that use a USB-C connection, but they are not regular USB interfaces.
This device is made specifically to allow converting a regular USB interface into another video output, it is literally an external graphics card connected by USB, not even close to what you are talking about which is only a means to use the already built in display outputs not add an additional one.
And even in the future when we have display port daisy chaining these still wont be obsolete because they will still serve the same function, to allow you to add an additional video output beyond what your computer supports currently, or adding a device that does not support the new features.
For everyone else: If you have never used something like this before, what to expect...
Some of them are plug and play for most operating systems, but you may need drivers ether for the best performance or because you have an odd chipset.
They work as indicated fine, the resolution and refresh rate, but what they don't advertise is the latency. So they wont work for gaming, video (because the sound will not be in sync) etc.
Where these excel is to setup an external capture to a capture device, or to add another functional monitor for productivity tasks, so great for office setups where basic entry level business machines may have limited display outputs and the user needs one more to use there normal monitor setup.

The new trend is video out/in through USB C cables directly.

Also this is useful for hooking up to a TV and even new prototype TVs announced at 2025 CES don't have C for audiovisual. So people could hook up phone/tablet to a hotel TV when traveling that'll likely be the trend for years to come.
