You cannot buy a beam gen 2 for the prices you are quoting unless the person who sells has no idea what they are selling
Wonder if they're selling a beam 1 instead of a 2

$650 for only a sound bar, no sub or rear speakers? No spank you!

My Samsung Q990C for $598 was a much better deal last year!

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I HATE this thing. I returned mine. Sounded terrible and having to use an app for a sounbar is dumb.

Same experience for me. I got both a Samsung Q990B and Sonos Arc + Sub 3 about two years ago, both on sale. The Q990B was nearly half the cost of the Arc + Sub 3, but to my ears, completely blew the Arc + Sub 3 out of the water. I'd say it was about a 90/10 split, with the Samsung sounding better 90% of the time, and the Sonos sounding better 10% of the time.

Obviously, to each their own, and everyone has different preferences, but I don't think I could ever justify the cost of the Sonos system over the Samsung. Maybe I needed to add in the rear speakers with the Sonos system as well, since I did have those with the Samsung, but that's just even more money to drop on the Sonos, where it was already nearing twice the cost of the Samsung. Doubt it would've made enough of a difference ever with the surround speakers to justify the cost difference.

To anyone on the fence, just wait until Samsung's next sale comes around on the current model Q990D. Just this last week people were able to stack sales and other discounts to get it for $760, and it comes with the sound bar, a fantastic subwoofer, and two surround speakers. The same thing through Sonos would again be twice that price, so probably not worth it, especially with the trajectory of their company right now.

I have heard Sonos at Costco. It is way overrated and overpriced for the sound quality. I keep trying to understand the attraction. I read this thread just to learn something and no one seems to offer any insight. Maybe that is why they are not selling. If you charge three times the competition, you need to have a superior sound.

They do make the best small soundbar, according to Rtings. The 5.0 Beam Gen 2. I bought one open box from Best Buy for $267, hooked it up to my little 42" tv that's in corner and it's fantastic. Full size sound bar wouldn't fit. I love it, but would never pay full price ($500) for it, that's extremely high.

IMO, Sonos was aiming to be the "Apple" of the home audio market. Their products are priced high to support the "Premium product" slogan and were rarely dicounted. Even the design language has many Apple ques. Most people/ reviews agree that Sonos sound better than most of the competition but it is not 3 to 4 times better!!

Personally speaking, I had another system that would get distorted at full output. The wireless Bluetooth connection to the rear speakers and subwoofer was poor at best.

For me, the Sonos sounds fantastic, has no distortion even at maximum level, and the rear speakers and subwoofer utilize wifi. I've never had connectivity issues or lag.

Went with ARC SL because I didn't want the microphone. Went with the mini sub because sale and had to turn it down a ton anyway.

Yes, Sonos is expensive, but IMO, setup is a breeze and the system just works, especially through ARC connections. Can use my TV remote for volume, app for tweaks (which I prefer because I'm always losing remotes).

For anyone interested in buying a sonos product, either wait or get it from costco for easy returns when necessary! With the latest change in management, declining stocks and news about acquisitions, it is a risky purchase.
Costco is a great way to buy but don't fall into the media FUD. Yeah they fumbled the App update but it's getting fixed and Sonos is well positioned to recover and grow their market. Leadership changes are in support of this and reduce risk not increase it.

Following.

I've been debating a sonos beam 2 purchase for awhile. Almost was able to snag one locally on FB Marketplace for $130 but probably needed to offer a bit more to $150-160 to get it. Have never owned a sonos product but seems ideal for a small bedroom paired with say the ikea bookshelf symfonsik speakers and maybe a sub down the line?

Debating buying a used beam 2 on ebay for around $200. Thoughts? Maybe the best move is to hold off right now and see where the dust settles.
Beam 2 usually goes for around $350-$400 refurbished on Sonos site. I don't think you're finding a used one for less than $200 unless there's a catch.

Have Beam gen 1 for bedroom and bang/$ it is great. This is better, but at diminished return on your investment....

Have full system in dedicated theater room as well so considerable audiophile. Have also A/B the Arc and Beam @ BB so did research.

That's true for most of their speakers, but just to clarify, the soundbars are good quality and can provide what most people need it for without needing the WiFi (which is what's causing issues with the app and such lately). But you're right about most of the other speakers.

a quick Google search shows Bestbuy is selling them for the same price, for those that don't have a Costco nearby.
