I've bought used Verizon-branded phones and noticed those have a bunch more bloat.
Kinda wish the title would just show $55/60 or less instead of the after coupon price. Many folks interested in these Tracfone deals don't qualify for the new customer coupon.
Last time, I added a line to my existing account through chat. Then I activated the phone. After the phone unlocked 60 days later, and rewards points confirmed after 61 days, I moved the plan to my main line.
Today, is there any advantage to adding a line through chat vs through my account page? There doesn't seem to be any Rewards bonus that I know of.
Also, I still have some Rewards points from that last time. I have enough for $250 in gift cards, but hesitating after reading others' bad experiences about not getting what they ordered.
As far as redeeming points for a gift card, just start with 600 points for a $5 card. If it comes through immediately, there are no issues on your account and larger cards should be fine.

What if I want to unlock both phones? Would I need active plans on both for that? Or is initial activation good enough to start the 60-day unlock countdown?

As far as activation, what I have done is: activate qvc phone #1 with a transfer of service from current phone, once the balance is updated, activate qvc phone #2 with a transfer from phone #1. Then once I see the balance updated, go into the Tracfone account, find the original phone and click the activate button and keep my number to transfer everything back from phone #2. Mine was a different bundle, but both qvc phones unlocked on day 60 even though they only had service for less than 15 minutes. Many Tracfone experts will advise spreading the activations out on different days in case you have to sort something out later.
This method maximizes service time and is easiest because you don't have to deal with customer service at all. If you want to open multiple accounts to try to get self-referral points, there are different benefits and risks to that method.
