This is totally false. If you pay in full at purchase, they will credit your account the full trade in amount and you can contact customer service to refund the credit back to your credit card. I did it twice with the S24 last year.
It's possible they changed since then, but, my plan is to wait until it's been released, and take my S24+ from last year and trade it in pretty much straight across for a S25+.
I started the trade-in fun by purchasing an S24 with a super-cheap trade-in, paying it off, then trading that in for an S24+, rinse, repeat.
I will say that trading them in-store was a much easier trade-in process then sending them in and hoping they would be approved. Of course, I missed the free upgraded memory, but it was worth it to not deal with shipping/approval non-sense.
Obviously, you could just farm some cheaper phones, but, I'm not looking to do like 15.
**Also, the real deal is a $700 trade-in bonus on top of whatever the regular trade-in value for your phone** This applied to all Samsung S25 devices.

Offer Details
Trade-in offer requires customers to trade in qualifying device, purchase and activate a new device. Trade-in device must have a value greater than $0. If the value of the trade-in device credit exceeds the cost of the new device, credit will be reflected on bill statement within 2-3 bill cycles. So first of all, I'd recommend doing this in store when the phone is out. You'd do trade in on the spot then, with total price out of pocket being 799 minus trade in value shown plus activation fee and taxes. You'll need to add a line for Spectrum mobile and that's around 20 bucks a month. You need to keep it for two months IIRC so you can unlock the phone if you want to go that route. That's basically it
If on the other hand you do the pre-order today, you'll get the phone in the mail and will have to mail in your trade in. Which is a hassle and fraught with problems historically. So maybe don't go that route. Also will have to cough up 800 and then be refunded that whole amount upon trade in as a credit to your account
You can then request the credit on your account to go back to your card
In either case, you're not financing, period. And you're going with cheapest plan. It's really fast and straightforward in store. I walked out with s24 last year with maybe 80 bucks spent.
EDIT: the fine print seems to have changed a bit. The question is whether you'd get the promotional credits over 36 months or all at once, even if you go with no finance. Obviously people will have to try to be the DP they want to see
Me, personally, I'll go in person and do the trade in in person. As I did last year. No credit to worry about. Get it done right then and there

As far as I can tell only Google does that every year because they're dumb.
Samsung directly has more options (with storage upgrade discount). Spectrum is just currently limited.
Cancellation of mobile line before device is paid off will result in forfeiture of remaining promotional credits.
It's on the linked page in the details.
AKA, only do this deal if you are ready for 36 months of Spectrum Mobile.

Order the S25+ with tradein, pay in full now
Trade in my S23+ for the S25+, get $920 credit back on my account
Call to get the credit put back onto my cc
Wait 2 months and then unlock
Put the phone on Tmo
Profit
Got this right?
Not bad to go from the S23+ to the S25+ for $300 net.

Similar wording showed on previous deals. Again, it's YMMV, but that's also why I'm personally waiting to do the deal in-store and hoping for the best
Because this deal only requires a 30 or 40 dollar a month plan, as far as I can tell, AND gives you a hefty credit for a cheap phone.
All the other deals for new iPhones or Samsungs required plans that are 3 times as much, or more.
What is the cheapest phone that you can buy, secondhand, to get the best value for trade in?
Is there a trade in list, somewhere?
The trade in value for it on this deal is 710
Insane double dip and I'm here for it

You can put in random number with same digits as usual IMEI number
I'm not doing preoeder because don't know actual IMEI yet (just bought QVC ones) and the trade in people do match them up usually IIRC
