I think the catch here is, there's fine print that states if you cancel before the end of the plan, your credits will be forfeit. So for those who just want to pay the 2 months and cancel, there's a risk Spectrum kills the trade in credits and you're on the hook for full value.
If you choose monthly payments for the phone, then you have to stay for 36-months to get the full credit, yes. And if you left, you'd forfeit the remaining credits.
However, if you pay for the phone in full, and wait for the refund (and stay the required time, which I believe is two months), then you're good to go.

Not if you pay in full

Again, non issue if you go in store and do trade in. But if you do order online, just ask once credit posts to your account and they'll put full refund onto your card

Fine print was there last year too. Really throws people

And that required time only necessary if you want to unlock

If you want to sell it to, say, Best Buy, no need

Yes, two. I may get two s24 or just resell one of em

See my reply above for how you can get credit back. It won't be over 36 months if you just request it back to card as soon as it posts to your account

Also, if you just go in store to do it, there won't be a credit to post. You'll walk out having paid 799 minus trade in value shown plus fees and plan price etc
You are not getting the S25U?

I've always thought the phone needed to be unlocked to be sold or traded-in (how else could they the phone be used by the next person if not unlocked?). But I am not an expert in this area and could certainly be wrong.

The trade in values can go down if you wait to go to the store when the S25 comes out?

OOOOHHHHH, got it, thanks for clarifying. So help me with the math/logic.... If I'm buying just to get the phone and get out, it's going to be about:
  • $23 per QVC phone
  • $104 for the Spectrum checkout process (fee, taxes, etc.)
  • $40 for 2 months of cheapest plan

So $170-ish total cost to unlock after 2 months?

Best Buy does not care. Neither does Spectrum actually

They just run the IMEIs for spot check and inspect it

Was just going to ask that question too. Is the smart play to preorder now to lock in the trade in prices? Or for those that have done this before, is it safe to wait 2+ weeks to go in-store and get the same $710 for the QVC phone?

Yeah, it's a concern

Though trade in value for the Moto G Play 23 is technically 10 bucks. Just should stay in their trade in list is what's important

That should be correct, yes

You can get your full credit back for a trade in by calling the customer service and get the credit refunded to your credit card used to purchase a phone.
Only downside about purchasing phones from Spectrum, especially for Samsung phones, is that there are chances that your phone might be stuck with Spectrum forever. I've bought about 9 phones from Spectrum in the past years, two of them, all samsungs (Z fold 5 and S23), couldn't be unlocked even after they said the phones been completed removed from their system. They have tier 3 support that can unlock doing some trouble shootings and stuff. but no luck for me. I had to trade in S23 with spectrum again. and I still have the Z fold 5 locked to Spectrum. lol.

You are certainly wrong. I have sold and traded in over hundred locked phones in the past few years.

For anyone who does know, can I put in random IMEI as placeholder and the trade in for phone would work even if its IMEI doesn't match?

I just tried plugging in the Moto G Play 23 for trade in value and it said "Sorry, your Motorola MOTO G PLAY 2023 is not eligible for trade-in"
2024 version worked fine for me. got a couple a few months ago
