-last years fine print-
  • Promotion requires customers to trade in qualifying device, purchase and activate a new phone. -If new phone paid in full, credit applied to purchase. If new phone financed, credit applied to bill in pro-rated increments for the duration of the Device Payment Plan.- If the final trade-in value exceeds the cost of the new device, the difference will be refunded to your Spectrum Mobile Account. Trade-in device must have a value greater than $1.
-this years fine print-
Trade-in offer requires customers to trade in qualifying device, purchase and activate a new device. Trade-in device must have a value greater than $0. If the value of the trade-in device credit exceeds the cost of the new device, credit will be reflected on bill statement within 2-3 bill cycles. -Promotional credits are reflected over 36 mos on the bill statement.- Cancellation of mobile line before device is paid off will result in forfeiture of remaining promotional credits. Visit spectrum.com/mobile/trade-in for details.
i dunno why people say its the same deal.
sounds like they will give you a credit for the amount over your trade in value in 2-3 weeks and promo credit which is the 700 over 36 months.
the last part about canceling the line i worry about what spectrum will decide that actually means.

I'm comparing the two fine prints right now and I think in reality it may be very similar if not same deal as long as you're trading in for the exact same or lesser amount of trade in value and not trying to get credited for something over the cost of device and financing it

My plan remains the same. Take my old phones that show up in trade in calculator the day s25 is released, have them "upgrade" my existing free Spectrum line that is upgrade eligible, and walk out having paid cost of taxes and activation for phone

Same as last year. You'll see trade in cost applied. No credits, no fuss, no nothing

If you don't pay the full price of the phone up front, the credit will be spread out to 36 months. Once the full price of the phone is paid, the entire remaining credit will be applied to the account, and can be called in for refund to the credit card. If you are worried and don't believe it, don't do it.

"If you don't believe it, don't do it."

Exactly. There's always some risk to these deals not going as planned

Compared to the crazy Costco Tmobile deals, this is a walk in the park

Reminds me of Best Buy Pixel 9 palooza. Or, well, this deal last year

It says…

Cancellation of mobile line before device is paid off will result in forfeiture of remaining promotional credits.

It's on the linked page in the details.

AKA, only do this deal if you are ready for 36 months of Spectrum Mobile.
But you're paying in full when you trade in (some) phones.

My friend tried to do a trade in deal with Samsung. They said there was something wrong with his S10 and offered him only $25 instead of the much greater trade they offered. There was no way to back out of the deal and get his phone back, so he was screwed.

I'd like to trade in my S20fe 5g, but the fingerprint sensor is broken and they wanted $180 to fix it. I now fear they will not give me the promised trade in value and I will lose my phone. Is that common?

Would they accept a locked iPhone 13 from one of these prepaid carriers like total or metro?

Yes, they accept locked phones

Does anyone know if it's possible to get two of them from the same Spectrum account?
Is Spectrum similar to most family accounts with a limit of five?
Thanks!

I've had 4 lines on same account without any issue.

There appears to be a subtle distinction between trade in credit and promotional credit.

My interpretation of the TOS is that the trade in value is applied but the promotional credit are the monthly credits that you get.

For instance you could be getting $200 trade in credit and $700 promotional credit.

The $200 gets applied to your credit card and the $700 is going to be monthly credits that you forfeit when you cancel.

You need to purchase Internet service too. You cannot just buy mobile phone without Internet. This deal is so misleading.

Eligibility

To qualify for our trade-in program, your device must:

Be paid in full.
Be in working condition and turns on. You may still receive an offer if you have a cracked screen or other minor damage.
Have no liquid damage. If the liquid contact sensor is activated, the device shows signs of oxidation, or liquid or moisture are visible through the screen, it won't be accepted.
Have the Find My app disabled.
Be restored to factory settings.

"Exceeds cost of new device" specifically makes it pretty clear they will do the crediting still, but within 2 to 3 cycles. That's same as before

The last line is actually pretty clear too. Any REMAINING promo credits that hang in the balance will not be paid out if you cancel

But the way most will be doing it, with full payment up front via trade in with nothing EXCEEDING original cost of device, should mean there's nothing remaining to credit back. It becomes fully paid off the moment trade in processes (again, as long as you don't finance. But even if you do, you can pay it off immediately fully to have it "paid off" - - whether that means you'll get full credit for trade in paid out is unlikely...). Even if it does exceed cost of device and you'll get a credit, nothing in new fine print precludes getting credited same as before. They won't be "remaining" promo credits. You'll have had them credited already. Usually it's within days

Again, it's a bit YMMV. People will report back here, don't you worry

But I'm not concerned if I understand their system correctly and am comparing the two fine prints

This is from Spectrum's trade-in terms and conditions:

...Credit means the Offer or Adjusted Offer amount for the Device value to be paid to Spectrum Mobile on Your behalf once We accept Your Device under the Trade-In Program. The Credit shall include any promotional benefit paid by Spectrum Mobile. Should You finance Your new device, Spectrum Mobile will apply Your Credit evenly over Your remaining payment plan installments. Should You pay for Your new device in full, Spectrum Mobile will apply Your Credit to Your account within the next two billing cycles...

It clearly defined credit as trade-in value plus the promotional benefits, and that credit will be applied to account within 2 billing cycles if the device is fully paid off.

Usually it applies a lot sooner than two billing cycles. That's normal

Other than that, definition of credit comports with what I expected and wrote about

Yes, if you finance it, it will be spread evenly across installments. We know that already

People speculating all day. Go do a trade in deal and provide a counterpoint if you want

In store is a ctually frighteningly straightforward. I say frighteningly because they try to make it basically frictionless but you're not even reviewing any papers. You tell em you want Spectrum mobile line and have trade in, you give ID, they look up account, they sign you up and you MUST insist on no financing and lowest by the gig plan, and they inspect your phone and give you new one. If you have CC on file they'll charge it. You get receipts in email immediatelyIf you're trading it in in store, it'll immediately deduct the value of the trade in from what you owe. I do remember paying activation fee last year It's similar to Best Buy trade in process actually. All email based, very straightforward
Lady from Spectrum earlier told me that as the release date nears, they'll publish the end date of the promo. I want to do it in-store but of course want the $700 promo, so I don't want that to end on release date.
Yeah I want the deduction of trade-in from what I owe, hoping that it will subtract from the price before tax. Sucks paying FULL tax on the phone when every other carrier subtracts the trade-in value THEN adds tax. A good $70 difference for me.

It's entirely dependent on the state you live in that governs how the tax is applied. In CA, you get taxed on the full price of the new phone. In NY I believe you only get taxed on the difference. Spectrum simply follows what the state dictates.

I would not do this because now they are separating the promotional credit from the trade in credit. You could be stuck with that $700 promotional credit over 36 months. Better to wait for in store for instant credit. You can buy at walmart a Straight Talk Moto G4 24 for trade in for $30 https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/5243895448

It's all speculation until someone actually gets the trade in promo applied to their account and see how it goes. I suspect if they spread out the $700 promo credit by mail, they will do the same thing in store. Better to wait and see.
