I have over 1200 hours on D3 over the years, and about 100 on D4. Something about D4 just don't feel right to me, it's simply not very fun. For the money I'd play PoE2 instead (Currently on Beta for $30 and $0 once the game is officially released). When in doubt there's always Grim Dawn.
This game is glitchy, as hell and crashes every 20 min. The only Blizzard game that I ever refunded and I played them all.
Something wrong with your PC. I've never had an issue, and I've since built an entirely new PC. Never an issue on either, nor the wife's laptop. It's on your end, unfortunately.
i paid $45 for the expansion bundle directly from Blizzard back in November. I have played Diablo back to the original in the late 90s. I played the crap out of DIII until the twins came along and games hit the back burner. This is a big game and I'm still learning stuff. I am enjoying it. The newest season started earlier in the week and it's been fun and a big time suck for me.
If you are a casual gamer or simply prefer something that is easy to turn off your brain while playing, Diablo 4 is a great choice. For people looking for a challenging experience like a souls game, get POE2.
I personally prefer D4 and have played and enjoyed every single Diablo game. This is a good price on the base game, and the expansion is worth paying more for the bundle.
Oh yeah D4 base game is also on Game Pass. Surprised more people haven't mentioned that.

I played Diablo, Diablo II and all the expansions. Played PoE for a while and agreed with people that it felt more like Diablo III should have than Diablo III did. I've only even done the free weekends and free trials etc for Diablo III and Diablo IV as they don't seem like continuations of Diablo or Diablo II to me. The feel and play style seems entirely different and just hasn't been particularly fun to me. I keep going back for the free trials every few months hoping it will be better than I remember and so far it never has been.
I will say that I have been playing these on PC and one of my big complaints is that III and IV feel like console games to me not PC games so if you're planning to play solely on console or steam deck etc they would likely be a lot more enjoyable and meet your expectations. I just wouldn't advise anyone planning to play on PC to get them as they have been really disappointing in that regard. Which is sad to me since Diablo was traditionally a PC game so it switching to console with PC as an afterthought for III and IV was disappointing.
If you want something more complex than D4 but dislike hard/grindy souls-like games, play poe1 instead of poe2. It's free and better for that category of gamer.
Don't get it. The game is bad, even after 7 season or almost 2 years. There is so no end game.
Take this season that came out this Tuesday for example. It is a recycle of Season 3 from last year. You unlocked additional powers while playing through the seasonal theme, and then there are few of the power is locked at some dungeon that you get a 5% chance of seeing it, if you explored the full dungeon at the highest difficulty Torment 4. At Torrent 1, you get 1%.
At T4, it is already end game level, and you still haven't collect all season powers.
Some of you may say, big deal, do 20 dungeons and you will see it. Sorry buddy, that's not how the math works. You get 1/20 of a chance of every time you explored a dungeon.

Tempted to buy this so I have easier steam deck access. If I buy the core can I play the expansion if I login with my existing battlenet account that owns the expansion?

Recommend clean driver install for your rig or something to figure out what's wrong....it's not the game

Edit: Are you talking about the current season or past experience?
