I've been seeing articles that Hue lights are about to get an update that let them perform motion sensing on their own and so while it could make sense to still have some of these in parts of your home, Ive wanted one of these for a while, but I'm gonna hold off a little longer because it seems they may be moot for most circumstances if the lights are soon able to sense motion on their own without a second device.

https://www.techradar.com/home/sm...on-sensors is the article, but "about to get an update" is a far stretch. It's a technique developed by a 3rd party that works on Zigbee protocol mesh networks. It seems more useful for telling if someone is home moreso than individual room detection. And most importantly, there's 0 evidence that Philips is working to integrate this into the Hue line.

I wouldn't hold out waiting, if you need motion sensing it's a great deal and likely be useful for years before anything with this tech is accurate and in our hands.

Ive had one of these on my front porch for 2 years so they seem to be fairly robust

These motion sensors can also provide temperature readings for home automation tools, like Home Assistant.

They've been super reliable for me using HA. I can get motion, temp, humidity, and lux. Lux has been awesome, as I can have certain lights come on from motion when the light level in a room is below a certain threshold. Pair it with HACS "battery+" and some blueprints and you'll be notified when the battery needs replaced, when it was last replaced, and the battery it uses.
