I just purchased the ABS Traveler's Club set from WOOT!.
I used the large size last week and had 48# of total weight. The luggage held up fine IMO being checked-in twice with Southwest.
There was a sign of indentation (blue became white where the crease was), but no physical damage other than cosmetic.

Not 100% sure what the craze is of not getting ABS unless you're a frequent flyer who may come upon a lot of abuse. Also with the carry-on size, most people would abuse that themselves unless the overheads were completely full.

Overall, I found the ABS to be fine. And at a lower cost, I feel that many people will appreciate the durability and savings.
Some of it probably depends on how the person themselves handles it. I've traveled the world with nothing but cheapest possible American Tourister and Wally world Ozark Trail stuff. Never had anything fail.
Some things you dont skimp on, a luggage failure is a disaster at essentially any time you are using it. 14pcs for $120 if you are buying this im not sure poly or ABS makes a difference.

Get quality luggage and save yourself from a big hassle!

Abs are fine. I used ABS no name luggages for years and most held up just fine. Only time it broke was the wheels. To be fair, I loaded up pretty hard for international travel for large checked in luggage and the wheels ended up breaking.

The most breakpoint failures are wheels, zippers and handles. If you are not travelling much or travelling within continental united states, this would be sufficient.

If you want something that's more quality, I would choose Sam's Club member's mark luggage set for 140 usd. Best value/quality in business

A well-worn set of $500 luggage is likely ten times better than this subpar luggage being advertised here.
Ten times better at what exactly? I often see people recommending Briggs & Riley and other similar brands for carry-on luggage. What exactly has happened to your $40 carry-on bag that makes one think it make sense to get a $500 Briggs & Riley carry-on? I'm genuinely curious to know what use case I'm missing.

Also, in your example of a $500 luggage set, I'm assuming it's including at least 3 pieces (carry-on, 24-25" checked bag, and 26-29" checked bag); it wouldn't make sense to compare a 2-piece (carry-on + 24" checked bag) set with a set that has 3 carry-ons and 2 checked bags. Maybe I've missed a deal post or two, but the traditional recommendations (e.g. Travelpro FlightCrew 5, Briggs & Riley, Away, Monos, Tumi, etc) are going to be near or over $1,000 for a 3-piece set. What you'll get for $500 is going to be a Samsonite, Travelpro Maxlite 5, etc), and people who recommend the more expensive stuff crap on Samsonite and low-end Travelpro bags just as much as they do on these Walmart deals.

I spend way more time than I should on slickdeals looking for luggage deals, so you'd genuinely be helping me if you could address the two issues I brought up:
1. In what situations will 95% of travelers (i.e. people who DON'T go on 50+ flights/year) find benefit in these bags that cost 5-10x as much?
2. What set are you seeing on sale for $500 that one could consider?
