Also we've been spoiled a bit with tech, I'm a bit of an enthusiast and usually use gear on the higher end. I'm shocked at times how good an nvidia shield can make content (even 480p) look on my 4k display with it's upconverting.
It's like the quote about audiophiles using your music to listen to their equipment where musicians use their equipment to listen to music.

There's definitely a difference between 1080p and 4k- and you need a good 4k tv set. I'm not metaphorically buying that 90% of 4k sets people buy are actually even ok TV's. or the 4k TV's that most companies make are even ok TV's.I had a tlc 4k and that was a piece of crap.
You need like mini led, oled, qdoled etc. but that's really where the picture pops.
Now does 4k matter for all content? No not really imo. I don't need 4k for any sitcoms, reality tv, game shows.
But it is undoubtedly better
