Does anyone know if the bit holder retracts to release the bit?

Yeah, this is a better bit set.
Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of Kobalt bits their they wear out very quickly compared to my experiences with Milwaukee, Makita, and Dewalt. Unless for really light or limited # of times use, I would rather spend double the price for other brands rather than being frustrated stripping screws.

I got the 100 pack earlier this week and these are greasy bits! They're so greasy! I burn through cheap bits so fast these will help with me constantly changing from ph1 to ph2 (yeah sometimes I gotta go all out) but I'm surprised they didn't go like mega hard with a buncha flat heads like you usually see on bit sets like these. Also still hate the kobalt boxes, but the jobber bits box is actually quite good and the jobber bits are very good. Gonna try to scoop another couple sets of those. They have the cast aluminum shanks on them so they're not long for the world but shit fire they're sharp.

i bought the 100pc set and it is garbage.

The case doesn't hold the bit securely, so even when closed they came out of the slots and got all mixed up inside the closed container. Garbage.

THEN.... They're not sized properly to fit in the drill/screw driver handle. They are not magnetic and do not have a friction fit. They're loose and fall out of the handle without any effort. Garbage.

For cheap disposable drill bits, sure... But they are barely serviceable.

These should have been $5 with a coupon for free fellatio if you complete the survey!

It looks like the 100 piece set is a bit of everything, whereas this focuses on most used. For example, 100 bit set has 3 Phillips 2, this has lots.

That set isn't 'impact rated' or 'impact ready'. I'm not sure the set in this post is either tbh.

If you are going to use drill bits in your impact driver you want them impact ready. That means they are designed to withstand the high torque and hammering action of your impact driver

The value of that set is the assortment of bits, including security bits at decent quality and great price. But the case doesn't hold the bits well (biggest complaint people have) and I don't know if they are really built for impacting. Kobalt impact bits aren't bad, but they do sell some non-impact sets (like this post), which may not hold up as well if used that way.
