As someone who moved from a 6th gen to this new Mini, and who was very sensitive to the jelly scrolling on the last unit, I can say that in my eyes they've fixed that issue. I also see less app refreshes since the ram has been doubled. Great little device.

no 120hz makes this device poop for me. its the last final thing that needs to be done. 60hz in 2024 is a crime

Yeah! Miatas should have a V6 too 😁
The 6th and 7th generation (this one) mini have the same type of screen as the iPhone 13+ and if you had used one, once, you'd realize you're applying TV logic to a magazine.

Yes! Just setup 7th Gen today from the 6th and confirm the same. Glad they were able to address it.

I really wish these had some sort of water rating.

I agree. It's barely excusable on the base iPad from a couple of years ago, let alone the Mini released only a couple of months ago. If you can't notice it that's great for you but this isn't a budget offering like the other comment seems to suggest.

E-ink refresh rate sucks too
correct. same reason apple gatekeeps the pro-motion only to the pro lineup. only the pro has them. so i would rather use an old pro than a 16 non pro. what is this TV logic, most phones above $300 are 90-120hz, no reason apple shouldn't be either.

Again, you're here and you haven't used them at all. Guess how we know?
The problem with the screen is that it makes everything seem slower.
Especially coming from iPhone 16 Pro and using iPad mini.
Despite a fast processor, everything feels and runs sluggish. Slow.
Depending on what you're doing, yes. I use a gen6 mini, a gen 4 pro and an iphone 13 pro max. (yeah, I had a case of upgrade-itis in 2022 after a long stint of being good) and for heavy workflow (business) stuff and moderate game usage, they're pretty close in responsiveness.
I *may* have some 'effects' (rubber banding, magnifying, animation) disabled in the OS if I found them annoying, so there's a chance that one of those makes it feel more sluggish.
The 'effects' difference is enough between apple and android that everything feels slow for me on high end android that nothing feels as responsive, but that's perception on the high end (and 'unusable' with lower end android devices).
Compared with similar uses but more programming on desktop/laptop macs and fairly high end monitors, it feels the same; pixel density, brightness etc. drives what I can tolerate with screens. Business (long hours) and gaming displays have different purposes and for people 'requiring' high refresh rates, 144 monitors are ridiculous in price if you want accurate color and crispness.
I stopped using motion-heavy gaming before the current gen retina came into play, so I guess YMMV depending on actual use case.
I replaced my M1 Pro iPad for a mini and I don't regret it. The only thing that is annoying is only the pencil pro or usb-c are the only pencils that work with it and not the 2nd gen Apple Pencil.
