Was this a display model or some type of in-store special?

No. I'm going to assume this is very regional (Chicago) After I posted
I punched in different Nationwide cities and could not find any with
with the clearance price. For reference you can punch in 60409 and you'll see the in store clearance price.

I wonder how much shipping to Southern California would be 🤣

I purchased this for an even $800 at Home Depot this past weekend. Also in Chicagoland, and already fully assembled. The Konnected features are a bit polarizing for true bbq enthusiasts, however the grill works identical to the "dumb" ones if you choose not to us the tech features. I wouldn't have paid full price for it, but for less money than the classic, with way more features that may make it more convenient to use, it was a no-brainer.

For true BBQ lovers, half the excitement comes from the process—tending the fire, crafting flavorful rubs, brining, and injecting for that perfect taste. It's all part of the passion! This connected gadget makes it more like an outdoor oven. Too easy, too hands-off. Where's the skill, the challenge?
Yeah yall have fun. I got stuff to do

You can still do all those things apart from the first part of your list of what "true bbq lovers" do. There's another part of BBQ you missed...the eating part and this thing gets you that.

Found a few HD stores in Colorado that had this deal, but only 1 had it in stock. Called and had them place it on hold for me, and drove 4 hours round trip to pick it up. When I got there, they had accidentally held the wrong Kamado Joe for me, and the Konnected Joe was sold. Spoke with the manager and they were able to get one ordered for me, and even gave me an extra $100 off for my trouble, so I was able to snag this for $750!

I am a "true BBQ lover", I have been cooking BBQ for over 30 years - multiple times per week. I derive zero excitement from tending the fire. I have bbq guru digiq temperature controllers on my Big Green Egg and my Weber Smokey Mountain, and I have two Masterbuilt Gravity cookers as well. I love being able to set a desired temp and know that, as long as I have fuel, I'll be in good shape. Adjust all of the vents that you want, I'll rest easy knowing that my bbq will turn out as desired.

How does this work? In the search bar on the Home Depot website?

type in the item number in the search box (322705036)
On the item page in the upper left hand corner you will see your nearest store. Click on that and put 60409 in the search box. Below the price it will say ...See In-Store Clearance Price.
Just an FYI... wherever you are located you wont be able to have it shipped.
It is in store only to purchase.
