Just received mine last night from an order on 1/13. Beautiful screen, build quality seems superb. Metal chassis does get hot with load, but I'm still running updates and software installs. CPU idled at 40C this morning when I turned it on, so I'm good with that.
I read somewhere that the GPU on this is limited power supply and more on par with the 4070 GPU besides the VRAM difference. Any truth to this? Supposedly the limit is a software thing that MSI did and not an hardware issue. I have interest in this laptop but not sure after hearing about that.
Also Is the ram soldered on? I don't know why I would need to upgrade it from 64gb but I would like the option to be able to change for any reason I might want to rather it was faster ram or ram from a different company
Ine more question for right now what about the SSD how many slots are there? Is it upgradeable. The option to have more than 1 SSD would be nice.

Couple answers for you! This is a slim, more portable laptop. The 4080 is reduced power, down to 105w. It has a bit more graphical power than a 4070, with additional VRAM. The ram is not soldered, so can be upgraded or replaced as needed. There are 2 nvme SSD slots, one populated and one empty. I will be swapping over my 2tb data drive from my previous laptop into this one shortly.

Anything in this range (<4.5lb) is going to be power limited. The only problem is this seems to be the only 4080 in this price range so personally I'd go with this if the budget allows. Alternatively you can save 300-400$ for a 4070 like the Lenovo Legion 5 or HP Omen that will have higher TGP.

Thank you I appreciate the quick reply and information. I have another question can you explain to me a little more the difference between this and a 4070 laptop? I'm completely new to pc/laptop gaming world and looking at getting into it. So is this not really much better than a 4070? I had ordered a 4070 earlier this month because it was under 1k and from what I gathered was a steal of a deal. That 4070 also has dynamic boost even though I also read that it supposedly doesnt make much of a difference.
But I was originally looking for and wanting a 4080 or 4090 laptop to better future proof myself. This seems more of what I was looking for and a much better laptop in every spec but possibly being the same GPU "graphical power" wise? besides the VRAM? I'm sorry I know you explained it but I think I need it put into more "lame man" terms sorry. I'm just trying to see if this would actually be worth buying and returning the other one even though costing about 400 more. Thanks again
Thanks for your reply. I agree this has been the cheapest 4080 laptop I've came across new for sure. Been shopping around since about start of November. 1500 and under would be ideal but I also would rather have the full power. I rather buy to future proof and get a few years of use at least before it becomes outdated or unable to play the latest games. The weight of size does not matter to me as much as getting the strongest performance I could get at the best price I can get. I was originally wanting a 17 or 18 inch laptop but those were all still about 2k.

Your best chance will be 5000 series release and if you've been waiting since November you might as well add a few more weeks. Either for a 5070 laptop or for more 4080 to go on sale under 1500. 5070 with 8GB VRAM might not be the best future proof though.
