kaspersky replacement

594 30 January 31, 2025 at 04:25 PM
My folks had been running Kaspersky for years on their household computer (5 year old Dell gaming rig I got them at Walmart) and I would like to replace it for them. They insisted on the software being free when I first loaded it.

Can anybody recommend a decent low cost or free software that won't encumber the computer too much but protects well?

Thank you in advance.

Malwarebytes is free.

That, along with Windows' built in protections, is sufficient in my opinion.

Spend the 2 to 5 dollars a pc and get Norton or Bitdefender or Malwarebytes Pro. All thee can be had for < 5 a license when on sale.

Always a matter of debate. Any of the 3 should work adequately in my experience.

Built in Windows Defender is really pretty good and will not (usually) have any conflicts with the OS or other software.
