I'd like to own this, but my corded bosch has been holding up great. Looking at the m12 detail sander to supplement it instead.
Consensus seems to be If you're doing work on a job-site, this is a no-brainer. If its in a shop, it's got good dust collection, so one less cord/tube in the way.. either way it's probably a good alternative to an existing corded sander.

I hope this is better than the Gen 1 tool which is questionable with the collector always popping off.

The vibration level is a lot lower on this new gen. Definitely better than the gen1 or many of the older corded version. If you feel the vibration borders you much, it would be good to try this new m18 orbital sander.
I've seen others mention that they have ordered online and then cancelled the battery. I just attempted this but it only gives me the option to cancel BOTH items (not just the battery). I was going to have them delivered (not same day).
Can one still pull the hack off this way without going to the store to return the battery?

If you are within the cancellation window - 45 minutes - just do the live chat and ask the rep to cancel whatever item you don't want.
It works for me once a while. But at least it didnt work for me on this deal.
I didn't have success either but I don't believe anyone has ever had an issue making the physical return.
(I messaged an agent, and they submitted the cancellation request for batteries only. However, it eventually failed because the items shortly shipped out after that conversation.)
I'm wanting to add a cordless sander to my tool set, and this one is tempting, but I think I'll hold out for a deal on their latest DA Orbital M12 sanders--I hear they are phenomenal. Still TU'd

I had issue with physical return once a while and 100% of the time in populated area like NYC.

I've had problems too. I realize if the "combo" is under a single item number that you cannot return just a portion of the kit but, I've also been challenged on a couple of battery returns to execute the hack. I've been told that both items had to be returned due to a discount being applied at least twice now.
Both times I ended up keeping the kit and selling the battery and/or charger on eBay for around what I would have saved with the hack - of course, there's the hassle of dealing with a "customer", eBay fees, pack/ship, etc...
Long story short, I think they're beginning to get a bit wiser to our hacking...
