I have one of these to use tivimate and it's been rock solid for 4 years.
In the apple ecosystem and uhf app has been rock solid for the last 2 months for me. I no longer really use the shield but it's a great streaming device.
Negative ghost rider. That's a limitation of Sonos not the Shield.
Sonos Arc, Arc SL, Arc Ultra and Beam (Gen 2)
Dolby Digital Plus
Dolby Atmos (Dolby Digital Plus)
Dolby Atmos*
Dolby TrueHD*
Dolby Atmos (True HD)*
Multichannel PCM*
Dolby Multichannel PCM*
What is weird is when I DTS TrueHD7.1 on my Arc and FireTV the best I get is Stereo 2.0. My friend using an Arc and Apple TV gets Dolby Multichannel PCM 5.1. I want to get at least some kind of surround sound when using Plex.

I've got 4 or 5 of the pros and I bought one of these. It was laggy and broke after about a year. If you're looking for a shield then spend the extra money and buy the pro.

This should be no more than $70. This is several years old, I have the 2017 and the 2019 Shield Pro and they both struggle with the UI. It's like they just forgot about the product. This is the hard truth, my Apple TV 4K 1st gen out performs both and has more space.

Their latest release is 2019 and still selling at 199 or 179 on sale 5+ years later ofc they abandoned it. Shame on the industry for not trying to compete with a 2019 model and less so on NVIDIA. At this point these boxes are for high end pirates because the majority of people don't want to pay for uncompressed lossless audio pass through or the latest video codec quality. I'm still upset they went with Google TV UI for its ad revenue because that was the primary reason I ever switched (Projectivy launcher is a nice alternative for holdovers). Got an Apple TV 4K with Infuse and haven't looked back (praying for their updated model to include audio passthrough)
Don't buy this tube version and get the pro instead. Worst most disappointing tech purchase I've ever made only because of pandemic shortages that affected the pros supply. So glad I sold it and got the Apple TV instead that I bought more for family members homes

I have to second others that say it's worth it to get the Pro. There are too many limitations on this model including the diminished specs and lack of a USB port. The unique features, like being able to run emulators are compromised by the poor Bluetooth performance.
Out of the box it was super laggy, but by using a custom launcher and disabling much of the cruft (search for a guide for this, has a name like nvidia shield debloat) you can get great performance out of it. I also appreciate the unique size/shape and internal PSU.
I don't entirely regret my purchase because after debloating it there's a pleasant lack of ads compared to other streamers. Still would go for the pro if I could do it again.

In was in a very similar situation and switched to Projectivy as the default launcher. It doesn't serve up all the ads and recommended content. Runs way snappier on the 2017 especially. Give it a shot! https://play.google.com/store/app...rojengmenu
