It's the same for the iPad.

They're just going to use the exact same tech they have in the Mac mini wrapped up in the current MacBook Air design.
The more likely scenario is they eliminate the M3 completely and keep the M2 as the cheapest option. The reason being that the first generation 3nm build process has been problematic, which is why they moved to m4 so quickly.
If that happens, I think there will be a scramble to pick up M3s on clearance.

If you are getting it for the internet and email, there's an iPad for that.
If you want video editing, you can do that on a Windows machine also.
As for Windows machines, it's tough to find something as slim, reliable, sturdy, and with a long battery life as a MacBook air. I'm sure that it exists but it's hard to find and research every laptop model. Whereas with the macbook air, in general, I know exactly what I'm getting.

Instant on, zero crashes, able to get into any of my electronic health records systems virtually instantaneously; trackpad is awesome, battery lasts all day, rests comfortably on my lap....

But isnt this cheaper than most full-fledged ipads? And now the M chips can run iPad apps too.
An ipad + good keyboard (not even the magic keyboard) is damn near the same price.
I also hate the cult that apple has spawned, but after using Apple devices for thr last few years I see that the ecosystem is so well streamlined for productivity and the hardware is optimized pretty nicely.
I still love to tweak and customize windows machines to specific needs, but the lines between the competition have really become blurred now moreso than they were years ago.
