I went ahead and placed the order, also getting the Plus membership for free. After that, the agent refunded me the price difference: $949 - $699 + tax. I also sent a copy of the chat history to my email, just in case.

I've learned that you'll have better luck trying during daytime US hours vs overnight with their India call center, since the latter will only strictly operate by the book. Also, the best way to price match is what others have done, whereby they send you a text message to pay for a cart they've set up.
I made the mistake of following the original customer service agent's instruction to complete the purchase on my own, and then allow them to issue a refund for the difference. DON'T DO THAT!! Instead, have them make the adjustment and send you an invoice that already reflects the lower price; this way, no takebacks like they did with me!
