Not dissing on the thread, I like retro computing/gaming stuff and I had a friend with an Atari 400 as a kid. I was a C64 kid myself. But let me just say that nostalgia is a powerful drug. I always wanted an Amiga but couldn't afford it. So I got one of the Amiga 500 Mini's for Xmas as a gift. It wears off quick. The games do not hold up at all, and you can do it all for free and better on even the worst PC with emulators. I feel like these should be $30 tops like the Sega Genesis mini things you find at all the Dollar Generals.

Just... a hundy is too much for this unless you just want a cool toy to look at on a shelf, and I get there is retro value in that. I know I'll get downvoted to hell for this.... I wanted so much to like my Amiga 500 mini and the Playstation mini I had... but just don't.

Great points. Just a few notes... The Sega Genesis Mini (and version 2) are awesome and now command a premium price in the used market as they were managed by Sega and had M2 perform the emulation and UI. You might be thinking of the older smaller Genesis versions by AtGames, and those are indeed trash. Playstation Mini was also poorly executed as Sony just slapped on a few random games, and some ran very slowly as they were meant for PAL market. I just wanted to point these out as you may have missed the actual good "mini" consoles in your comment. NES and SNES were also very well done. These are all hackable as well.

I vastly agree however I feel the A500 MAXI will be the exception as it'll provide for the full Amiga experience and not just the gaming aspect.

Ps mini was worth it for $30 which it eventually dropped to, but $100 for it at launch? Hell no. I ended up hacking it and removed the thirty games on it and just put the ones I wanted on there. But sometimes it would still freeze up. At the end of the day if I want to play valkyrie profile I'm going to play the remaster on the ps5. No point in playing the emulator on ps mini and having it freeze up randomly and ya lose God knows how much progress

Plus just the controllers are pretty authentic and nice on the SNES.

Didn't the 400 actually have 16k?

Still have 800XL I bought after selling the Atari 400.
What did that guy call it? The peanut butter proof keyboard?

If someone wants this thing for a nostalgia piece, would be far cooler to get a real 400 and use it as a mini-pc box.

Looking at a board teardown, it looks like you could solder an additional two USB ports directly to the mainboard. LOL I want one now just to see if they work I need help Stick Out Tongue
