For those out there who want to take moon photos, the new series has just been released. These are pretty awesome for what they are. In addition, the p1000 has been sold out for quite some time and going for a higher price on Ebay.
For reference, I took these moon photos on p900 with no edits or special modes. See photos 3 and 4. This should be a little bit more zoom.
I appreciate any rep trying to level up! Mostly I buy.

Almost identical to their 2018 camera. Wish they would have made a few more improvements, but this is indeed still the best option for its very niche market. https://petapixel.com/2025/02/04/...-behemoth/

It's a fantastic camera for birding (I have the old version, which is nearly identical). However, it is very heavy, so it will take getting used to it. For extremely long shots, I found very surprising success targeting birds and other objects with the Nikon DF-M1 dot sight.

I've been wondering when they would get around to upgrading this camera. I guess people that prefer the shorter focal length of the P900 are going to have a wait a bit? I would expect that there has to be some improvements to the sensor after 7 years. The samples look good (on my phone).

They have a 950 model for $750
I rented the P1000 for a week and then shot a friends P950. I bought the P950 as anything past 1,800-2,000mm reach is pretty filled with visible noise and softness. Note that these small sensors need lots of light too. These are good for stationary object shooting as trying to get a bird in flight is impossible. If you want to shoot BIF, go with a APS-C sensor and even then it's a challenge. I've owned and still own a number of these super zoom cameras and while I like them all, it's a challenge with the need for light and the less movement the better.

Did you try AI denoise in Lightroom etc? It's a bit of a game changer for noisy shots. Worth the upgrade to Lightroom Classic for me.
16 Megapixels is what I would like them to upgrade substantially next time. That seems like it's important to get the details you'd like when zooming over far distances.
